This argument has gone on several times at the forum, and it always grinds to a halt because there is conflicting evidence.

For example, when Samar Dev first meets Karsa she describes him as half-again as tall as a man. So 8-10 feet tall.

But Karsa is supposed to be like the old TTT rather than a muddied-blood descendant Teblor, and the TTT under the fort in HoC was "three times a man's height" by Kalam's description. Bellurdan & that TTT are the only purebloods we've seen directly (assuming Bellurdan was a full TTT) and comparing Karsa to them suggests he is over 10 feet.

Bellurdan was Tattersail's height when sitting down, which suggests to me he's about twice the typical human height, assuming Tattersail wasn't really really short.

There's more that muddies the waters whenever Karsa appears, so it's hard to say how tall he is at all.

How do you figure? Sure he's from the least muddied Teblor line, but the Teblor are still not what the T3 once were. At a minimum, inter-breeding with lesser tribes would have diluted them somewhat.

- Abyss, has never really worried whether Karsa was tall enuf'.

Don't have a quote for you Abyss, I just consider Karsa to be "more than the average Teblor". I would lean more towards the "man-and-a-half" height though.

It's just a bit frustrating to see people waging this same argument again. It doesn't have a definitive answer until SE writes "Karsa Orlong, a _-foot tall Teblor warrior".

so why argue? all we need to know is that he can do pretty much anything. He heals super-fast, doesnt get infections, has near limetless stamina, is very intelligent, and has the strongest will of any character so far.

That is why some people hate him, and why some people (me) love him. :p

Sorry, I only brought it up because I couldn't find the original discussion and I am just rereading HoC and noticing all the different descriptions.

(plus, a thread named (what are the toblakai) seemed like the right place to ask...)

So Icarium could beat Rake in a fight, right?

- Abyss, what colour were Traveler's eyes again?

No, that's not why people dislike him - people dislike him because he's a
condescending bastard... :D

Anyway, Karsa is one of those characters that I can't make up
my mind about - I like some things about him and other things I hate.
Much like a real person, really. He's beyond escaping notice though :p
He is certainly interesting.

And, me too have no idea how tall he is. I just picture him very big.
The rest doesn't really matter. Well...for now.

I'm certainly not Apt, but the answer is clearly: "Apsalar." She's bringing souls to his gate like no one else!

let's just call Karsa vast and leave it at that. As to how he could destoy on of the unbound, well he is knight of their house and i don't see old cripple lifting a srivelled finger to help when karsa is venting some anger. He likes maimed things anyway.

About 10 feet tall and 600-700 lbs sounds about right to me (im imagining about twice as tall as a normal human and 3 times the weight.) Remember that modern show jumpers jump 3-5 foot barriers on a standard horse so a 5-7 foot barrier wouldn't provide a tremendous obsticle to a horse half again as high. Also, it would take at least 2 men to carry a standard sleeping 6ft, 220lb man so taking 8 to carry a 10ft, 700lb man doesn't seem too far off.

If he's 1.5 times as tall as a normal man and we can assume that he's about the same larger in cross-section, then he should weigh just under 3 and a half times as much as a normal person. Given that he's likelier to be even bulkier than that, having 8 people required to carry him isn't out of the question at all.

Teblor are denser than other humanoids, TTT's probably even more so. Their muscle tissue is hard as wood, their bones probably even stronger. So Karsa is actually REALLY heavy, which also lends some credibilaty to the force of his blows.

Reading this thread really shows one of the main talents of humans.... That is our ability to make an argumant out of nothing. All we really need to know about Karsa is that he's huge, heavy, and intelligent, he's the equivilent of Superman.

@clip - your approach is both logical and effective, and thus must be disregarded.

Besides, Icarium could totally kick Karsa's ass.

- Abyss, nyuck nyuck nyuck. :p

As mappo was set as Icariums guardian, surely it follows that Mappo has the power to CONTROL icarium, I know what you're going to argue 'look how hard Mappo wrestled Icarium,' but let's bear in mind he never used the massive bone/mace that his shoulder women gave hin with that big ole pack!!!

I think that Karsa could easily beat Icarium. All he has to do is punch him, and Icarium would be out like a light.

Besides, a Karsa vs. Icarium fight is so totally ridiculous that it could never happen... unless...

Come on, the role of the guardian is not to physically dominate Icarium. It is to guide him and make sure he does what the Nameless Ones want. This is not achieved through physical force because that approach would not work with Icarium.

Knocking him out is not a viable way to control him, and any other outcome of a fight would involve him slipping into a rage.

We know one of the guardians was actually a human, so the ability to fight Icarium is clearly not important.

Plus Mappo mentioned the danger that when ever he tries to knock Icarium out there's a good chance of just enraging him instead, he always spoke of that bone mace as a last resort. i think instead of control you should be thinking the guardians influence icarium.

If the guardian was supposed to be able to physically dominate Icarium, than a human Gral tribesman is a poor choice.

Gotta give some rep to Abyss for simultaneously derailing a thread, starting a "who would win" debate (Wolverine ftw!), and knowing full well what was going to happen and laughing at us while he did it. Logical and effective... a wise guy, eh?
