Hi guys!
Just received the cover of Reaper's Gale, even though it's still in draft form.
Check out the blog to see it! Steven's publicist explained that Transworld are trying to get away from the too-generic fantasy style...

Not as bad as the Bonehunters MMPB cover, I suppose...

Yepp, but I don't really see how that is 'moving away from too-generic look'.

Yes, that is a bizarre comment, certainly.
But who are we to question the publishers?

"that we should be moving away from the too-generic look to try and attract a wider audience for Steve"
In other words - they are trying to put a cliche-full cover-art to attract fans of simplistic fantasy. Moving away from the too-generic look? Yeah, right. Only true if you add "...and trying to achieve hyper-generic look".
Not that you can see much from this pic but I certainly don't like the explanation.

Aye, its defenetly better than the BH one, still though, not what I had in mind
I have stolen princesses from sleeping barrow kings
I have burned the town of Trebon
I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life
I was expelled from the University at a younger age most people are allowed in
I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during the day
I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make minstrels cry
You may have heard of me....

This isn't Bantam so much shooting themselves in the foot as blowing their entire leg clean off. Oh my God, it's lame.

The picture is not entirely bad (level with TBH imo), but changing the design of the cover is really a big no-no.

I would like to see a larger pic of the cover before giving my judgement.

At least you can tell it's the same artist as before--Rhulad there looks like the Edur on the MT cover. (Not that they looked much like the book described them anyway, but at least it's some kind of consistency.)
If these new covers were more like the forthcoming Night of Knives I wouldn't mind--aside from the issue of them not matching the ones I have--but they're not even at that level.

True, but they've obviously made an effort to do them in the same style. I like the NoK cover though, which is the crucial difference;)

I don't mind it... I'm not sure about the whole skull thing across the top. It seems too much like a generic fantasy cover to me...

If you don't like the cover art...

Rhuaald was my first thought when I saw this. Even without looking at details.
Bit dark (as - hard too see anything) but I like it.

Thanks Pat.
This was the sort of reasoning that resulted in the US covers for GotM, DG (initially) and MoI.
- Abyss, can only hope that the publishers grasp of the industry is better than mine.

Personnally I don't know, I like it...
Except the top third, with that helmet thingy, but otherwise, it just shows how dark this chapter promises to be.

OMG...that suuuucks! And "away from the generic feel"??! I guess they think we are all stuuupid, or what. If this cover isn't generic, than what is? This is the old "man in underpants with muscles and sword"...this so screams Conan and uber-generic i am feeling sick.
Please, please go back to the old layout and the old style of cover-art...
They who work for the bookcovers really should do a better research job...i can remember that a lot of people on here said that the unusual covers drew them in, the first time they laid eyes on an MBotF book.
So, if you want a greater audience, this isn't the way to go, not ever!
