The color red is missing from the book stack collection. So is green (though GotM comes close to that). It should be red or green. A book series always looks appealing when stacked by each other, and you see a rainbow.
You guys might attribute the Malazan series as non-generic, just because SE's writing style is so different from most, and it instills a different feeling. But the content of the series itself IS generic fantasy stuff. It has dragons, shapeshifters, undead armies, parallel worlds, wizards, and gods. Rhulad's story is unique, but he is still just an uber sword pwnage guy given his power from an immortality curse, by an evil god.

I'm trying to decide if what you said is blasphemous or a good point.
Both.
OK, I can see what you mean, as it is in the details. I mean no-one has done dragons like Erikson... And no undead armies are the same as the T'lan Imass... etc. So I can see where you come from, as most people wouldn't look beyond that to the details...

I just want the damn book already! And abyss, I agree almost completley with your post, only change Everquest addicts to World of Warcraft addicts
I have stolen princesses from sleeping barrow kings
I have burned the town of Trebon
I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life
I was expelled from the University at a younger age most people are allowed in
I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during the day
I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make minstrels cry
You may have heard of me....

What?!
You know, with this line of reasoning, nothing is or will ever be non-generic. Because everything has been done before in one way or another.
So, yeah...

Guaranteed sales? I say a boycott is in order.
But seriously though what a crappy cover.

As Erikson's fans, we WILL buy it.
But if their objective is for a non-generic fantasy cover that will attract readers outside of the genre, I don't believe those people will be tempted to give the series a shot based on that new style.

Why am I suddenly thinking "Conan the Barbarian"?
Yeah, if those are suppose to be T'lan Imass, they don't look dessicated enough and there ain't enough pieces of stringy flesh hanging off of them.
And, if Tiste Edur, at least it doesn't make the Tiste Edur look like neanderthals (like the Midnight Tides cover). I can't seen Paran Sedac having a thing for Trull if he looked like that. I like my guys grubby and rough around the edges too, but not like Quest for Fire. :hand:
I need to see the larger, less dark version though.

Ah, the only thing that really concerns me here is the fact that they might delay the book because of the cover

Well, with the page proofs coming out this week, I daresay Transworld are on schedule. I don't believe there will be any other delay (hopefully!).

I don't like this cover. I didn't like the one for the bonehunters either. Personally my favorite covers have been the 2nd, 3rd and 4th books. The 5th looked cool but left the Tiste Edur on the cover looking like T'lan Imass which bugged me.
I often avoid books with covers that look as uncreative and uninteresting as this one does. It was the covers of the afformentioned books that got me to buy them in the first place and this one is just sad in comparison.

Oh my... If you look very very very very closely you can sort of see the vague outline of things that could be coins... so yeah its Rhulad. I agree it could lode the bit on the top. And fantasy covers in general shouldnt focus on one person or group in the book. Should be more like the first and second one.
The first one is still the best...

The picture is okay (I'm not mad about it, but it's a good piece of art, even if it's a bit generic), but I really hope they don't change the layout - I'd like the new book to match the old ones in that respect.

What do you think the other covers are going to be? Reaper's Gale is Rhulad Sengar and The Bonehunters I'm guessing is Kalam (or Apsalar, not sure actually). The others are probably:
Midnight Tides: Trull Sengar?
House of Chains: Easy. Has to be Karsa Orlong.
Memories of Ice: Crap. Whiskeyjack? Caladan Brood with his hammer? Tool or Lady Envy? Difficult to say really.
Deadhouse Gates: Coltaine, surely? Maybe Kalam if that's not him on the cover of TBH.
Gardens of the Moon: Anomander Rake, I'd wager.

Are you talking about the American covers, Werthead?
What I see on mine are:
GotM: black-wearing sword-wielding figure. Rake is best match, though not great.
DG: some people on horseback in a sandstorm. not clear if it's any particular characters or just some rebellion fighters.
MoI: some Barghast or T'lan Imass outside Coral or Capustan. No specific characters.
HoC: Trull & Onrack at the Hound Statues
MT: some Tiste Edur, assume it's Trull though not obvious match to any scene in books.
BH: Kalam fighting Claws in Malaz City.

Any new issuance/cover of Memories of Ice will probably have something to do with wolves - maybe Silverfox flanked by two large T'lan Ay.
