BLACK SCIENCE vol 7. I hate you Remender.

Because it was so damn good?

In other news, I got a shopping notice that the next EAST OF WEST trade shipped and will be in my hands on Tuesday.

Yes, and because the cliffhanger has cliffs hanging off of it over cliffs. That hang.
While cliffhanging.

...but to be clear, it was insane awesome.

Movie but comic related.... the animated JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK is pretty great fun.Constantine is as near perfect as an animated DC movie will risk, Zatanna, Etrigan, Deadman are great, Swamp Thing steals every scene he’s in. Batman’s attitude towards magic is kind of misplaced and inconsistent, but doesn’t really affect anything.

....I still think they should have gone with JUSTICE LEAGUE ARCANE tho.

I've decided to dip my toe into the comic book world.

Quick question - do people buy volumes or single editions? Any advice on which is better or is it simply preference?

I mean, if you can get an Omnibus at a good price of a series you know you'll like, go for that...otherwise trades are a solid way to get into comics without spending too much to begin with. You can grab one trade (usually 6-8 issues depending on the title), see if you like it, and then grab another as the mood strikes you.

If you're going digital and reading on a device, I highly recommend Comixology as they are ALWAYS doing bananas sales.

I don't use it myself (yet) but for Marvel comics you could subscribe to Marvel Unlimited. It has most of Marvels publications for 8-10 dollars a month I think. It sorts the comics in series, events or character specific.

I imagine DC must have something similar.

I have an annual subscription to MU. My library has Hoopla, which has a good selection of trades. And I buy trades on sale on Comixology. Also, pick up some Humble Bundles.

Sadly, they do not. It's been a bone of contention with fans for years now. Word has it that they will have some sort of back catalogue that will be included in the DC Universe Streaming service they are creating...but it's more expensive because it's mainly a TV/film streaming service that will happen to include an all-in digital comic service...but I have no idea how extensive it is.

DESCENDER.

Done.

Suitably epic ending, closed out the major plotlines, subverted a few expectations nicely.

On the other hand, the main characters, and notably the main 'main' character, kind of felt like guests with very little impact on the finale, which i found a little disappointing.

Also can't help but feel the author swerved a bit just to set up the sequel series Ascender, to the story's detriment.

Sill, overall a satisfying series. I'll read the next one.

BATTLECHASERS.
So basically Joe Mad’ was so embarrassed by his Monika character that he bailed to go make video games.
There was some fun parts, but overall this was better left behind in the 90s I think.

Just read Kelly Thompson's Rogue & Gambit: Ring of Fire TPB, and it was basically perfection. But then, I've been a big Rogue/Gambit bobo for a couple decades now.

It, along with a bunch of other current/recent Marvel series TPBs, are all on Amazon US for between $3.50 and $5.50 right now. (X-Men Blue/Gold/Astonishing, All-New Wolverine, etc.)
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

EAST OF WEST 35-38...fairly quiet issues after the massive power shift, but as always, great.

Just finished....
BLACK SUMMER - fun, great art, great action, maybe tries too hard to be a political message at times.
BLACKGAS and BLACKGAS 2 - Meh. Bad rage zombie story. Nothing new or clever, one semi decent twist more for shock than story value.
GENIUS / GENIUS:CARTEL - the first is a well drawn, well plotted story about a modern military genius leading a revolution in south central LA. The second is a bad action movie.

Have you read Sandman? If not, read Sandman.

Also: Transmetropolitan, a dystopian comic about journalism in politics written from 1997-2002 that has aged terrifyingly well.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.
