Yah that prompted me to check it out.
Real 'just one more chapter holy crap it's 4am' stuff. Great twists and retwists.

ETA and rewatching the trailer now that i've read the first four collections... yeah, i'm in for that.

Tho it's a little a bad sign that there are two 'styles' of trailers, this boderline punk rock, and the other that makes it look like a spoof John Hughes thing.

Still, at least visually they nailed the casting. I can't see a tv series getting even close to the sheer level of sex, drugs, and cast fatality the comic does, but there's a lot of good source material there. A. LOT.

.....seriously, if you ever read a comic and were irritated by the basic rule that most of the main characters were 'safe', this is the opposite of that.

I picked up the first volume of Deadly Class on Abyss' recommendation, so...

Just Finished vol 7.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

It's amazing that something this dark and violent is also this funny and entertaining.

It's gonna take me for-frigging ever to get to volume 7...

There is an outrageous amount of good ongoing comic series nowadays. I'm still only picking my way through Saga and East of West. How does this stack up to them two?

It kind of develops into a fast read, much much less cerebral or as visually stunning as SAGA or EoW, but also, arguably, more entertaining in a Hollywood action film sort of way.

I read the seven volumes back to back to back and stayed up stupid late more than once to do it. I've had an easier time putting the other two down for the night. Maybe it was just the right comic for the right brain at the right time.

Put a different way, i too have 'picked my way' thru Saga and EoW (while totally enjoying them). I could not 'pick' DEADLY CLASS. The hooks Remender and co set at the end of each storyline are too hard to ignore.

LOW, by Remender and co. Killer art. Interesting underwater post-apoc setting. Engaging characters.
...WTF is with all the boobs??? It's beyond gratuitous into ridiculous.
Female character dresses for combat, outfit does not involve a shirt. Seriously?

This is what turned me off Remender. This exact thing.

Given that Deadly Class doesn't really do that, I'm not sure if it's the choice of Remender or the artist. But having read the first volume of both, it's hard to believe that they're written by the same person. I didn't hate Low but I've not been in a hurry to pick up Vol. 2, whereas Deadly Class is brilliant.

Deadly Class is the comic Mark Millar would write if he was about ten times more gifted.

There's usually a token amount of nudity in Remender's original works, but LOW does seem have more of it than usual. It does develop into an excellent story with the second volume though, so I'd still recommend giving it a shot.

Which of Remender's works have you read QT? I'm not trying to convince you to give him another shot so much as trying to see how you came to your conclusions in him as a whole.

I'd have trouble believing the artist did that without Remender's ok, but i suppose it's possible. In vol 1 it's not quite as silly and most of the nudity is at least story-based ish... i mean, sure, slaves might be forced to dress that way. But in vol 2 it just becomes stupid.

CLASS has nudity, but it's not gratuitous and the male characters are more or less on par for it. One or two of the female characters are more 'sexualized'... Saya and Brandy come to mind, but it makes sense i the context of the character and story.

LOW otoh... wtf. I'm engaged in the story but if this keeps up.... meh, i may bail from this (not Remender generally, just LOW). I have mucho other comics to be reading that don't irritate me every few pages.

I imagine this must be how those people who get pissed off when Butcher writes Dresden inner-monologing his sex drive feel.

Indeed. As far as I'm aware, the writer almost always dictates the specifics of scenes to the artist, and nudity would fall under that category. Even if the artist is choosing outfits, Remender and the editor both sign off on the content from an art perspective.

Not to mention that Greg Tocchini's body of work contains little else like that.

Gotta say, SEVEN TO ETERNITY, DEADLY CLASS, BLACK SCIENCE.... these are brilliant works in the medium with none of the gratuitous silliness.

Sure, and with good writers and artists it's a co-design process anyway so Remender doesn't get a complete pass however it happened.

But Deadly Class is nothing like it and it seems like most of his others aren't either, so weird one that if Tocchini also doesn't generally go that way that they've come together to create this.

Yeah, i would expect it of Avatar or one of the other 'edgy' c-list comics labels, but this was Image.

Morrison's run is considered by many to be the best. But it's not for a Batman newbie, as I was when I read it. A lot of it went over my head. Snyder's and King's runs are supposed to be good too. I read some of Snyder's and thought it was just ok.

Any particular book by Morrison you would recommend?
