I finished volume 2 of Stormwatch and it was great, although the ending was a bit abrupt. I heard there's a missing alien crossover event that's not in the Comixology volume I have, so maybe that's why the ending seemed sudden. Seems it's only available used and it's more than I want to pay for it. Already about 30% into The Authority and it's very good so far. Ellis is certainly at the top of my list of comics writers.

Yeah. Well, it was abrupt even with the crossover, because it was basically Ellis responding to criticism of Stormwatch for being too complex for superhero comics by nuking it and relaunching as the widescreen The Authority.
It's not an especially great comic by the standards of the rest, but it did please me to see the Xenomorphs used to enact major change on an established, big-ish comic universe (even if it made no sense). Though Darkseid getting his hands on some in the main DC continuity was even better. Anyway, you haven't really missed much- basically Xenomorphs slaughter everyone and that's the plot.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Thanks, I'll skip it and save some money.

As far as Daredevil goes, there are supposed to be 4 great runs, Miller, Bendis, Waid and Brubaker. I just figured I'd take it in order. And I heard a lot of the Netflix show comes from Miller's run, and I like the show.

SAGA.
Collected tpb, vol 7.

Great comic, fantastic storytelling, stunning art, some of the best so far.

Also, I hate the universe so so much right now.

I have to say, I agree with some of the points in this article. Basically, the publishers made it so damn difficult to buy comics without being wealthy.

You may rebut with the Marvel online thingy, but I'm referring to print titles - new or otherwise.

It's not a long article, give it a crack:

"Fortune favors the bold, though statistics favor the cautious." - Indomitable Courteous (Icy) Fist, The Palace Job - Patrick Weekes

"Well well well ... if it ain't The Invisible C**t." - Billy Butcher, The Boys

"I have strong views about not tempting providence and, as a wise man once said, the difference between luck and a wheelbarrow is, luck doesn’t work if you push it." - Colonel Orhan, Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City - KJ Parker

Bumped up to the $10 tier, because why not.

Then I read Lock & Key, Volume 1 and holy crap that was fantastic. So I paid the extra $8 to get to the $18 tier and nab volumes 2-6. So yeah, what JPK said: $18 is an absolute steal for all that Locke & Key goodness, plus some other cool-looking stuff. (Also looking forward to reading D4VE2 now.)

NOT HELPING

Wait wait wait... Have you not read Locke & Key yet Abyss? This is right up your alley. If you have the money for this, you really really should hop on this asap.

So this past weekend i started reading LOCKE & KEY.... and yeah, you weren't kidding, this is amazing stuff.

I'm particularly impressed at the level of tension the artist/author manage to create in a comic form.

Plowed through vol 1 WELCOME TO LOVECRAFT and the SMALL HOUSE one shot, on to vol 2 HEAD CASES.

.... so, yes, thanks for the reco.

This guy : https://www.google.c...-1795604000/amp

Terribly dissapointing as plasma rifles, lightsabers, and magic wands were quite banned. However soft target bunched up thick dense lines, mostly going to the wrong target. Lines that were 2-3 hours in Arizona were the implementation with people in full gear, which each year has people stroke out. Oh yeah no water either was being sold/ given out something. Dumb.

Backpacks were allowed in still, still searched coming in, But said lines earlier made this quite clearly more dangerous as they were thousands thick. Said lines could been field day for a uhaul.. Too. Don't get me started on the threat of the obvious: the clearly disarmed.

Pretty sad as they could have implemented better solutions and clearly were not prepared.

Overall the effects this has on cons is quite serious as most likely will change quite a bit as I'm hearing more cons are implementing this.

Dissapointing response as this creates a large soft target.

Quite happy the well armed police did their thing.. Notice I don't say much about the unarmed untrained security. They were inept as they couldn't track the lines and lines literally were going into each other and deadheaded at places. People were not thrilled.

The biggest thing is how this will impact cons everywhere. Clearly a rise in properly trained armed security. Better lines then letting in 100k people then 3 entrances and 2 security entrances ( Saturday they did triple this in terms of security entrances) /soapbox off

ASSHOLES

Dear Assholes - i have to rethank you. Am thru Headcases, Crown of Shadows, and Keys to the Kingdom now. Well into CLOCKWORKS.

And holy.
Fuck.

This is glorious comic.

Seriously, i know it's easy to slag Joe Hill for who his daddy is, but this guy is a brilliant writer. And while i was a bit offput by Rodriguez' art (specifically his faces) at the outset, it's grown on me. His action is good, but his backgrounds, shadows and settings are fantastic.

The way they use the 22-page sequential art comic medium for the storytelling, and build suspense and drama within the page and issue structure is amazing and eating whatever spare eyetime i have for reading.

This is easily up there with SAGA and EAST OF WEST for sheer quality of writing and value for dollar. Not quite as over-the-top imaginative as those series, but in its own way just as good.

I really enjoy a read like this, it reminds me that there is so so much more to the medium than what DC and Marvel endlessly recycle.

...and when i'm done with the comics, i am utterly and totally listening to the audio drama earbook version .... https://www.audible....DORWS0623159DZ8 .

Speaking of EAST OF WEST, season 3 started (Issue...30 I think?) and a bunch of stuff that's been building for a long time has begun to pay off, and it's EXCELLENT!

Spoiler

I read Issue 29 first, which was the end of S2, before I read the first few of S3. You're right. Still, what a great moment!

Also with regards to your second comment...RAFO. :D

Sidebar: I LURVE the production of these issues in dead tree...but I switched to digital at around the issue #24 mark or so and I've not looked back. It's a tough decision because they put a lot of thought into the design of these....but in the end Environment (and space!) won out.

Yeah, that's my conflict. In books i've gone 100% digital except for the odd signed or special edition. With comics there are still a handful of titles - Saga, EoW, Black Science, anything Sandman - where i haven't made the jump yet, even tho in all cases i would read them much sooner if i went digital because my tablet doesn't require silly things like sufficient light and two free hands... SANDMAN OVERTURE has been sitting by the bedside forfuckingever because i can't bring myself to read it in short intervals when what i really want is to sit and enjoy for an hour or two, then reread the entire series (which i only own in hardcover, albeit very very pretty hardcover).

I'll break sooner or later.

I'm impressed you've been able to go 100% digital in books.

I've chosen to go mostly digital in books, but I make dead tree exceptions for fav authors like Erikson, Sanderson, Butcher, ect.

I hope this reduces my dead tree books by a significant margin.

But I doubt I could go 100%.

I haven't been reading comics that long, so I've been 99% digital. Speaking of which, I just ordered the new 10.5" iPad Pro to upgrade my Air 2. Comics being a big reason. I've wanted a bigger screen for a while and considered a Pro 12.9, but thought it would be too big and clunky. Even considered a Galaxy Tab S 10.5, but didn't want an older tablet. I heard the rumors for the 10.5 iPad and figured I'd wait. I'll post my impressions of it as a comics reader. I can't imagine it being any worse than the Air 2, which I really like for comics.

As to what I've been reading.

Finished The Authority by Ellis and thought it was great. Also, read Iron Man Extremis by Ellis and thought it was good.

Batman and Son by Morrison. It was very good. I had been reading Snyder's run and started to lose interest, this is much better IMO.

Chew vol 1. I had started his years ago and never finished it, so I started from the beginning. I liked it.

Due to all of the Locke and Key talk I bumped this up on my queue. I read the first volume or so years ago and never got back to it. I had a huge problem of constantly starting things and never getting back to them. I'm more focused now and have list of titles I am trying to complete.

Finished Miller's Daredevil. I agree with amphibian, it was mediocre and the stories had a sameness about them. I was a bit bored at times and considered stopping There were parts with Stick, Elektra and The Hand that were very good and i was hoping he would go deeper into that plot line. I guess that's why I continued until the end. I did like the art, especially considering it's almost 40 years old.

Up next is Whedon's X-Men. The only other X-Men I've read is Morrison's.

Check out Blackman and del Mundo's Elektra when you get the time, if you're on Unlimited. That does a better job of making you care about Elektra and the Daredevil regulars than anything Miller did.

There's tons of good stuff to explore and I hope you have fun.
