[Ozymandiac]

A few years ago I read a series of fantasy books, but I can't seem to find the name. I just remember some titbits of info, if anybody recognises it, please let me know.

The story starts with two young human friends, the crown prince and a wizard - the wizard is studying his skills secretly because magic is forbidden (I think). There are a couple of kingdoms: human, elf, and 2 more I think. So far it sounds like most fantasy series I guess.

The key thing I remember is that the kings and queens find/build a glass prism or pyramid that they split up in equal parts and ceremoniously divide these among themselves to symbolise peace between their realms. The human crown prince is witness to this ceremony and observes that the prism was Empty in the center, which (to him) symbolizes that the peace was flawed in some way.

From that point on, it's all a blur. The prince and his wizard friend betray their people and their capital is destroyed. The prince is somehow banished to another dimension where monsters live, but he becomes their king by fighting them. He then returns to his old world with his new monster friends to take over the new capital, together with his old wizard friend.

Does this ring a bell with anyone? It's been bugging me for years before I realized I could just ask here.

Trying to remember the name of a book I read years ago. All I remember about it is that a guy who is a computer programmer gets transported to an alternate universe or something where he writes a compiler for the magic system and then creates spell tablets or some shit that anyone can use... Anyone know what this might be, or who it could be by?

That sounds like the wiz series by rick cook, but I only read the blurb and scanned a few chapters.

Afternoon...I read a book about 10 years ago and can't for the life of me remember what it was called. The following facts I can remember are:

• I think the overiding theme was to do with fire
• the main character was a young boy who lived in a poor part of a village/town
• the character fell in love with a girl who was either the chief's daughter or some kind of royalty
• there was a huge fire that destryoed the village/town they lived in
• about halfway through the book shoots forward 10 or so years
• the young boy and girl are now together and I think the girl is pregnant
• they come across some kind of god that is huge like a a titan of greek mythology
• in the very end of the book there is a passage claiming the story is based on some ruins they found in America, supposedly from thousands of years ago (Native Indian)

From what i can remember about the author:

• Was definitely male.
• Had a russian/eastern european surname I think.
• Has written sci-fi as well as fantasy. I think he is more well known for the fantasy work.

If anyone has read this and know's the title I'd be very grateful.

Hey I was wondering if I could tackle the collective knowledge of the Malaz hive mind, I am trying to remember the title of a book series I read ages ago, all I can remember about it was it was about mankind evolving telekinesis powers and joining the intergalactic community, I believe it focused on a character called Mark? and his little brother who he had been talking to since he was in the womb... Think he may of been disfigured too... Anyone know the name of this as its driving me crazy!!!

Okay. This one's been bugging me a little while:

- Alternate history (Rome) where there is magic
- There's something magical about the legion tattoos that all Roman Soldiers get (which may be restricting magic as well somehow)
- the hero reanimates Julius Ceasar, and at the end of the first book they find and reanimate Alexander the Great as well.

- i THINK it's a trilogy, but only ever read the first, and damned if i can remember what it's called.
- the author MAY possilby have three names (ie his middle name is given in full, rather than just an initial)

It is clearly Oath of the Empire series, a four book series starting with Shadow of Arrarat by Thomas Harlan. A very good series if I remember it correctly with quite a few interesting twists on old ideas.

Not sure if you're still looking to find out about this serie, but to me it sounds like the Galactic Mileus series by Julian May, there were other books attached to the main series, the one you've mentioned is Jack the Bodiless I believe. Hope this helps

This is a hail mary.

A few months ago (2?) my sister was reading a review in the paper (sunday times culture magazine?) about a book that appealed to her (horses). I looked it up and found it in ebook format, was £25, told her to wise up, too dear, etc.
Want to get it for her wedding day in hardback.
Can I remember anything of the authors name or the novels title?

what I know -
was reviewed recently so I'm assuming released this year.
It was about a horse being brought to the UK, I'm saying 1800s is the setting. Possibly an arab horse.
I have searched and searched through the sunday times reviews section online, I have trawled amazon based on release dates, (interestingly there is a book called "Arab Horse", released in '92 which is nothing like the book in question, and when I say interestingly, I mean fucking hell annoyingly)

I this twigs remotely with anyones brain and they can give me a vague handwave, a gamble, a supposition of what the fuck this book is called, who its by, hell, even if the horse WAS an Arab or not, ANYTHING to help.
