Driven by a rush of nostalgia I gave Hanson's debut album Middle of Nowhere a listen after two decades, and I'm surprised at how well it holds up.

This album still slaps!

AI give me early 2000s Eminem with an English accent and a guitar who also sings, and name him after the Mandarin for Humanity and Benevolence:

'ren, (Chinese: "humanity," "humaneness," "goodness," "benevolence," or "love") [...] the foundational virtue of Confucianism. It characterizes the bearing and behaviour that a paradigmatic human being exhibits in order to promote a flourishing human community.

[...]

The concept of ren reflects presuppositions that are characteristic of Confucian philosophical anthropology (philosophical reflection on human nature). Confucians have historically viewed each person not as a morally autonomous individual but as a social being whose identity derives from his interaction with and conduct within the broader human community. The person who exhibits ren exemplifies the ideal of what a human being should be and encourages others to strive toward it. In fact, the word is homophonous with the word for human being (ren). The concept of ren has been interpreted in different ways, some of them partially expressed in English renderings such as "goodness," "benevolence," and "love." All these interpretations, however, share two notions: every human being has the capacity to possess ren, and ren manifests itself when a virtuous person treats others with humaneness. Confucians associated the humane individual with the junzi, or cultured gentleman, whose exemplary behaviour distinguishes him from the petty person (xiaoren; literally a "small person," like a child). One could say that within the Confucian worldview, ren is ren: embodying the virtue of humaneness requires that one become an ethically mature human being.'

Burt Bacharach died. :(

94 years old though, a pretty good run.

So many wonderful songs.

The first comment under the video sums it up pretty well - "If you locked two people in a room for 20 years blasting every Rush album from Caress of Steel to Signals, when they emerged they'd be Crown Lands"

Been Caught Stealing is IMO Jane's Addiction's blandest song. I still can't comprehend how it's their biggest hit.

The new Lana Del Rey single sounds like old school Tori Amos in all the best ways.

Balgurra are in the studio to record our debut album in about a month. I think the title is going to be 'Defiance as a Virtue' but we haven't settled on it yet.

Tracklist:

a presently unnamed intro noise track (We'll probably think of a title for it once we've heard it, the vocalist from our other band Aubzagl is doing this for us 'cause she enjoys making noise tracks)
Unmaking Vitruvius
Calvary
Kill It If You Have To
It's Not You, It's Them
I Didn't Hear a Word You Said After 'What About'
Natives

Runtime is approximately 25 minutes to half an hour. Hardcore punk with grindcore and prog rock influences.
Debut novel 'Incarnate' now available on Kindle

I'm one day deep into Apple Music's new Classical Music App and it's wonderful, and comprehensive!
