I love the Dresden books I've read. The TV series was shite, sadly Somebody should be shot for that debacle.

I just finished small favour (reading them in paperback though I'll have to reconsider this philosophy I think) .. Anyways, I've got a small worry about something that happened in in the book.

Cpt. Lucciano.. She gets warm and loving with Dresden, which all my experience with popular culture tells me means that she's in the Black Council. Think about it. Dresden's life is based on Susan and Murphy when it comes to women. Those two have always been the women of his life, and introducing a third now seems similar to crime series when the gruff detective meats a woman through a case. She's ALWAYS guilty in those scenarioes. Why? Because too much of the character is based around him being gruff and alone.

Not to mention the little forshadowing with Murphy warning Dresden against the relationship.

An example of love late in the game....Harry and Ginny don't get frisky in Harry Potter till the 6th book. She comes to him late in the game but she ain't working for Voldemort. Plus, I feel that Jim might not screw over his protagonist in the love area that many times....Sheila/Lacsiel was a big enough blow, not to mention being shot down by Murphy, and Susan being halfway Red Court now.

Murphy practically has to take up that sword.

While she is Dresdens only sure connection in the Chicago police right now, her third eye form is that of a knight and she is a christian. It's so obvious it has to happen, the question is just what will push her to do it.

I keep hoping that some new government connection will pop up, like a department within the mayors office that knows about the magic. Something ala X-files or the special forces demon hunting unit from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

On another note, the thing I am most anxious to see/hear about is Michaels situation. For me it was completely heart wrenching when the doctor gave the family the news. While I reckon that Michael has a few favors saved up in Gods big book of good deeds, I also reckon that god always works in mysterious ways and Michael may remain a paraplegic or something even worse. You just know that is going to be killing Dresden and Michaels family. And how will Michael handle it? Will his fate be shaken or will it be stronger than ever?

Yes, you can. It's an anthology of short stories. Butcher is the only reason I bought it though. His is the best story in the book.

I've been following this thread because I've been a fan since the beginning. But if you'd like another magical P.I., you might try Glen Cook's P.I. Garrett stories. They are somewhat like Rex Stout's Nero Wolf stories but with magic. First book in the seriesis Sweet Silver Blues.

S'possible. It seems unlikely that Harry is destined to carry one of the Swords himself. The 'Excalibur' hints in the last book suggeted he'll be playing the 'Merlin' role, so to speak and ironic given the 'Merlin' on the White Council. Tomas has used a sword more than once, but he is still a vampire
(and very much so - see 'Back-up'... and take THAT you people who read the teaser chapters... ). I kind of wonder whether Michael's wife Charity isn't likely to take it up. She has the right history and training.

Oh, why didn't I think of this!? Chastity of course... or what ever the wife's name was... she is an obvious choice. Of course, Harry has two swords now, So Excalibur for Chastity and ninja sword for Murphy. Then Butcher can write a new spin off series with two strong athletic women rubbing puppies with holy swords of awesome, one a devoted wife and mother the other a tough career cop, together they fight crime.

I haven't had a Dresden fix for a few weeks now though, so I picked up Deathmasks today.

The only problem with a long series is that not all the books are available just when you want them..

I honestly can't afford to buy books in hardcover right now though. the reason I only got Small favour now is b/c it was in mmpb.

They sort of established that the swords belong to royalty, what with Sanya being a descendant of Saladin, Shiro, being Japanese royalty and Michael's family going back to Charlemagne.
Who does Murphy have in her past that's been such a major figure?

Also, this may be crazy, but:
what if the last sword's destined for... Marcone?
think about it: he has connection to the archive, and he's a major player since book 1. It would also fit with how Harry keeps considering his scum of the earth, but at the same time he keeps bailing him out.
