It's silly because you are applying evolutionary principles to a magical being.

SE spells out to us that evolution is a process that applies to the Eres, Imass and then humans, but I really doubt it's the method to use when trying to explain the features of demons who live in otherworldly magical realms.

I was very suprised when HUME reminded me that Apt was a demon matron... I would have rethought my forum name if I had thought to remember her sex... me being a male humanoid ...

You and 'tiam' should start a support group. :p

But seriously folks, evolution is a fuzzy thing... what if, in the Apt's home realm, it just happened that the particular base line creature that evolved to the Aptorian demon form happened to look like an ostrich from one of Hunter Thompson's more intersting drug trips.

Of course it's pointless Dolorous Menhir, but it's dazzelingly boringly entertaining, also the main reason I'd apply some sort of evolutionary theorys to Atp

i acknowledged earlier that evolution might not apply to demons. Even if it doesn't though, theyh have the form they do for a reason. Maybe some god, mage, or other powerful being created them. Maybe magic incarnate created them. However they came to be, there is a reason for them to be shaped the way they are, I can't find one in Apt's case.

It's not so unreasonable to think that evolution works on demons. They aare only creatures from another realm/dimension, and there is no more evidence to disprove that they evolve than there is to prove it.

Last, of course this discussion is a waste of time. As pointed out earlier by the wise and knowing Apt (the forum member, not the demon) the vast majority of these threads are pointless. It's entertaining though, so that's why we do it.

I never considered that demons were natural in any way. I think that their domainsdimensions are pure chaos and disorder. There is no reason behind any of the demons' shapes or appearance. Like in GotM, the Demon Lord has a cape, I mean, what the hell?

there's some evidence in MT that demonic life is more normal than we might expect. As for the demon lord having a cape, why not? If they make weapons and armor for themselves, why not clothes? I don't think their domains are pure chaos and disorder, at least not all of them. Just because they are from another realm, we can't make that kind of assumption. After all, if humans went to a demon's realm, they would be by definition demons themselves.

What Raymond said.

Demons are just Aliens by any other name. Consider, if you livein chaos, to chaos is your reality, your senses are attuned to it, you can breath?, eat and live in it. To a creature of chaos order would be a poison.

That doesn't mean that demons live in chaos. I think we've only heard of things living in chaos in GotM. I'm not gonna spoil anything but more demons show up in the later books and their homeworls aren't more different than Wu.

I think the cape-wearing Demon Lord in GotM is a classic GotMism, in this case use of a fantasy staple that's never been seen again.

There were a lot of cliches like that in GotM, perhaps to serve or an easy intro, or so Erikson could get them out of his system and be more original later.

Well I knwo the three legged things has been used before. I saw it used once on a discovery channel program when they tried to show what life on other planets might be like. The show is hardly science is was just crazy animations with some science talk in the back round but the idea is out their.

As for 4 legs being better than 3. This is only true if apt runs like a normal animal. We know she can out run a horse. I see her as doing a sort of running/leaping hybrid thing. First she pushes off with both hind legs. Than she pushes off with her one fore limb. Than she lands on hind legs and repeats.

I have also always seen that fore leg as close to an elephants trunk. Very usefull

The one eye thing. Yes this would seem silly. Two eyes i think are needed for depth perception but we know apt has amazing eye sight and further we know she can see things in emurlahn cottilion and shadowthrone cant.

What I want to know is if there is going to be a battle royale between Aptorian hardass and our old friend Aptorian, the demon formerly known as Apt. How about some fisticuffs over rights to the name? We want blood!

Are we going to have a litter of little Aptorians running around now? Or, hopefully a DEMON FIGHT!!!!!!!!! Winner gets to wear the cape the demon had in GotM.
