ok so it's the stone bowl... their skins are not grey, the white crow never appeared in that scene, there is no hole in Scabandari's skull...where it's supposed to be ... but it is a pretty nice picture :) far better than some... but it looks like elves in the woods to me :)

Trull, Fear and Rhulad...Binadass was only mention during the conversaion he was never present.

But good stuff, I really like this cover. It'll look awesome on the shelf...now if TOR were just increase the quality of the bloody books they'd look truly awesome.

I like the picture...

complete u-turn on what he wanted to do initially... and not particularly accurate, but still a decent picture...

My main problem is... okay its clearly trull, fear and rhulad but they dont look anything like the edur, they aren't grey, and they dont have any of the barbaric clothing mentioned, it's much to refined for the edur imo

Still its a nice picture...

The brothers stood at the well bowl and looked down on Scabby's skull from a distance, if I remember right, and I don't think he was killed by a lethal blow to the snout...nor does it fit my image of the Edur, though I suppose I'm stuck with the UK cover Edur in my mind. And the Stone Bowl was dark, lit by Kaschan sorceries, it wasn't a really bright place as shown here.

Got to say, it's a nice piece of artwork though. Though I still think the scene of King Diskanar slumped on the Throne would have been best, coin-covered Rhulad being too much to ask for.

You nay-sayer Hetan:p Let's just finally rejoice that they've found a decent artist for the US covers and are sticking with him!

Is what I've been saying. I've love Todd's work...they should get him to do the UK covers...but probably not if only to preseve the continuity in desgin of the covers:p

Hahaha you backtracking there Hettie :)

It's a really good picture, but doesn't have the accuracy you'd hope for, particularly the Edur, the rest I could live with for artistic licence, but they look just too much like elves. Shame cos he clearly could have done a great job for them. On the other hand the Edur on the UK cover don't look right to me either .. guess that's why we read books - to stimulate the old imagination :)

It looks awesome, and it's closer to the source material than the original cover, even if they aren't grey. I like it.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

It's awesome.

As for barbaric clothing, are they even wearing clothing? They seem like they have the Conan thing going on... a loincloth and some armour and so muscular that who needs clothes!

I'll agree with the "they don't look like Edur", but to me it's because they don't look elf-like enough. Especially if that's Trull up front (based on the spear)... I never pictured him being burly.

Well there arent exactly any malazans in MT but..

And Yeh I prett ymuhc agree with most points so far..
One thing I do like is the size of Scabby's skull. Indicates how big he would be as a soletaken Eleint. That is the bare minimun in what I think of them as.

lol...you're kidding, right?! The whole series is called "Malazan Book of the fallen"...so what i meant is that Todd's art just does not capture the flair of the malazan books for me... --> malazan-vibe

Clearer now? :)

YMMV of course :)

The Crimson Guards are Malazan in a way. They come from Malazan territory, and they talk about Emperor Kellanved. Pretty much the only explicit link though.

I thought the skull to be broader, the blow should certainly be higher up - I thought between the eyes or so.

Also, they don't look like Edur :-( Too elfish (allthough muscled), too refined! More barbarian, more clothing!

It seems that cover art rarely is completely accurate. From what I hear, most authors have very little say in what the art is like, and many publishers go for a picture that represents the whole book, the theme, or many important parts of the book instead of a exact snapshot of any part of the book. Still, there are some inacurracies here that don't seem to have any explanation. Oh well. That'll do, pig.
