I was flicking through the book today, and I noticed something I'd either forgotten or not spotted before: there's a moment when Kalam goes off to check ahead of Tavore and T'Amber, coming out of tunnel and finds a bunch of Claw killed and scattered around all over the place - he mentions that it looks like someone was venting a grudge, it looks like a lot of anger, but that's just his guess.
Now, I can't remember whether this was explained in the book, and if it was, who did it? I can't think of any outsanding candidates - Apsalar joined the game later, and anyway, the description of the scene doesn't suggest her style -broken legs and things -(though it could be a recurrence of her torture thing, which was sidelined in this book, but I thought that was a GotMism). The possibility that it was other Claw was mentioned, but only as a guess.
Anyone?

I wonder if it may of been a Hound of Shadow?

Shadowthrone was taking an interest in Kalam after all...

Cotillion certainly had a grudge against the Claw, perhaps Apsalar shares it. I don't think there are many other candidates for people who were killing Claw wholesale that night. Simpler to assume it was Apsalar.

I actually thought it was Cotillion himself - getting back at what he sees as a corrupt and fumbling version of the institution he worked so hard to shape.

I was thinking Apsalar, or Cotillion, but as I mentioned, too much force seems to have gone into it - broken limbs was never something I picked up from them. Though I could be reading to much into it.
Another thought that crossed my mind that it was, by pure coincidence of crossing paths, Leganas Reed, and that Kalam is confusing anger with the unsubtlety of a T'lan Imass visit.

Could have been Rel's Claw versus the Empress' Claw. And he's called Legana Breed.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

It was probably Apsalar. Where else would the 300 Claw she killed be?

I agree with Dark Mac - ST did say Apsalar killed about 300 claw.
A side note: that would mean the other group with Kalam killed off the other half, also about 300 claw, since the total number was estimated (I think by Kalam, but I might be wrong) to about 600 claw.
Edit: okay, so that was stupid, since it never says anywhere that all the claw on the island was killed off, but I still kinda like the idea :)

I put it down to either Apsalar or, as Illy said, a bit of house-cleaning by Pearl and those loyal to Laseen.

Apsalar kicks a Hound of Shadow across a room. Doing the same to a human would certainly break bones.

and yet when she went after teh 300 or so assasins she didn;t bother to kick any across the room to cause collatarel damage and chose instead to use he knives... thats a typical of aps who kill in the most efficient manner usually..

I actually meant that the corpses were the loyal ones, murdered by Rel's Claw.

Ah. Well, consider me in general agreement, then. There is definitely some infighting going on, and since we only see the dead bodies, it's hard to figure out which side won a particular battle.

Yeh i thought it was the black glove shadow organisation against the claw. It couldnt have been the other way round because if the claw knew thy were infiltrated they would have chosen a better opportunity than chasin the greatest living assasin.

She generallly applies a variety of methods. I doubt she killed each Claw in exactly the same way.

no she doesn;t but she kills them in the fastest and easiest way available to her.. that means thrusts and strikes at vital points.
she isn;t possessed by cot anymore and she has no reason to torture those claws, they are merely enemies due to different beliefs..

the onese that was found was broken by being pummelled if i remember correctly. aps style is more of knive thrusts, broken necks and so on..

not brutal beating to death
