All the Andii spirits that are in Lether are stuck there because they were killed by the Edur or the KCCM before Gothos' ritual (have to be, there's a lot more wraiths than the thousand killed by Scabby's troops), so they can't leave. The Edur mages can compel some of them, but the majority are roaming around the area feeling sorry for themselves.

When Rhulad gets the sword, with the fragments of Ruin's weapons in, that allows him control of ALL the wraiths. All, say, 350,000 of them, leaving out those that escaped it's effects like Sandalath, and the survivors that flee to Bluerose. Which is handy, I guess.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

But Sandalath escaped the effects because she was a casualty of the KCCM, and not the Edur betrayal. So you have to exclude all those who died in the battle against the KCCM along with her - the vast majority.

Which leaves you back at only the bare thousand under the control of the Edur, right?

yep... there were only around 1,000 andii left before the Edur finished them off...
and that has always been a problem with the idea of the sword-shards commanding the Andii Wraiths...and incidentally what I remembered after I posted..! DOH! :)

Sandalath drowned. The KCCM didn't kill her directly.

I still think Gothos' ritual trapped the wraiths there, but maybe it only affected those killed in battle... or, Sandalath escaped because a possession of hers was retrieved by a loose wraith and she broke free of the ritual's control. I think. Something like that happened to her and a few others, anyway.

And the enchantments on Ruin's swords were most likely done by the Other Son of the Mother, with a very direct connection to their creator. That might have an effect.

Nop Illy... Sandalath died fighting the K'Chain...

‘The K’Chain Che’Malle counter-attack drove a number of us down to the shoreline, then into the waves. I am a poor fighter. I died on that sea’s foaming edge,'

‘I was among the first to die in the war,’ the woman said, ‘and so not
at the hands of an Edur. They cannot take me, cannot force me to fight
for them. I and those like me are beyond their grasp.’

It's not the sword shards that are the problem for me :)

Yeh but when the wraiths charge they say theres 10000 of them which confuses me. So i think that the edur warlocks before Rhulad could command those 1000 or so but RHulad can command them all even mostof the ones killed by the KCCM

Speaking of conflict in the HoC, i wonder whether Rhulad and Kallor are destined to bump heads...

Rhulad is 'supposed' to live (and die and live and die and live and etc...) forever and control the Letherii empire for the CG. Plus he thinks he's the King but he's more like the Fool.

Kallor is an old hand at running Empires, and as he notes to QB in MoI, he's good at freeing souls. And he was aiming for King but seems to have ended up as Reaver.

- Abyss, and in this corner...

Now this is why I need to get my copy of MT back off my friend. My memory is suffering from a lack of rereading. Curses!
