the only 100,000 figure I could find refers to the numbers of the Merude tribe

'Largest of the six tribes, the Merude had been the last to capitulate. They had always maintained that, with their numbers approaching one hundred thousand, forty thousand of which were blooded or soon-to-be-blooded warriors,' (MT, UK HC, p.27)

From that ratio, we have just under half of society as warriors... so of the 420,000, 160,000-200,000 would be warriors.

Just a thought on why they never got around to perish or even letherii.
Dassem Ultor killed/dissappeared at Aren, Kellanved and Dancer murdered. I,d say things gotta bit hectic for poor ol Laseen....what with all those rebellions poppin up, she never thought to check out further off the continent.
Feel free to discuss

actualy I had never thought before that it was strange that they never continued the onquest. I guess because we never knew how much was out their before. But it seems odd for the empire to wage war on korel or genebackis across oceans when they could mop up whats left of 7 cities on which they already have a major toe hold

It also strikes me as odd that malaz empire should want to conquer korell and its stormwall. why take on that kind of responsibility. That said I hope we get to see this wall, sounds intresting

and going back to the edur nukbers. I remeber anti-preda twilight looking at an edur fleet and surmising a 100k warrors were attacking and so she surrundered yet that was only one of three edur prongs of invasion. i guess its possible not evryone on the ships was warriors but? I wonder hat ever happened to that fort that managed to resist them

I had no trouble with the Perish. Clearly they were taking the "classic" long view of things we see lots of people take in the Malazon universe. They have prepared a portal to their warren for 2 years and clearly they know what they are up against next "The 14th is not going to be enough". Why would only the Malazans of all the people on the planet be concerned about the upcoming war between the gods. Its fairly certain if Burn dies everyone does. This provides a certain amount of motivation at least in my mind

as to the stormwall, it directly protects the centre of the malazan empire from invasion by the stormriders, so I can easily see why they wanted to control it themselves

"Riders, Murl and his fellow pilots called them. Sea-demons and Stormriders to others. Beings of sea and ice who claimed this narrow cut as their own and suffered no trespasss. Only his Jakatan forbearers (seems to be a grammatical error) knew the proper offerings to bribe the swiftest passage south of Malaz Isle." ((NOK, PSP hc pgs. p3,4)

this seems to indicate not, but they could be.
