What is the symmentry between Kruppe and Iskaral Pust's relationship with their mules? Who are these mules and what exactly are they capable of? In both Memories of Ice and The Bonehunters the mules seem to be far more that they appear, didn't Iskaral's defend the ship from being destroyed at one point. Then later it simply disappeared. Anyway, seems like something is going on here.

The Mules are still a mystery to me, there's the possibility that the Mules are soletaken (at least Iskaral's). As to who/what exactly they are I have no clue, nor do I think there has been any mention/clues as yet.

We will of course discover in the 10th book that it was the mules. They were the ones doing ALL the manipulating.

It's so very obvious, isn't it?

in a vaguely serious reply, there's various hints that the mules are avatars of krul, ie the fact they are generally asleep etc, and krul is the god of dreams

why k'rul has a particular obsession with mules i have no idea...possibly it is his lesser portfolio, god of warrens and mules.

Though for all we know this could REALLy be a war between teh mules of darkness and there arch foe the crippled god.

Maybe my ignorance is showing (again)... but I don't recall K'rul being the god of dreams :p I know he's been in a couple, though.

I always thought Kruppe's mule had something to do with the QoD. I always suspected that Kruppe is life aspected, just going off his nature, and Queen of HH Life = Queen of Dreams, and Kruppe's mule is always asleep/dreaming. But that's about as far as my theory has gone :p

I have no idea how Pust's mule would fit in there...

Isn't Pust's mule the soletaken form of the little hunchback servant we see in DG?

Of course, since the mule seems to be rather powerful, the question becomes, who is the servant.

Pust and Shadowthrone have always seemed eerily similar, and I have thought they were the same myself. The only thing is that they have been seen talking to eachother. Do you belive this is simply part of Shadowthrone's insanity, manifesting a part of himself and talking to it. Or is there some connection between Kruppe and Pust, they do seem to have a lot of similarities, albeit on the opposite side of eachother.

meh, busy with the third reread of DG, last thing before starting BH, so might change my opinion again later on...but guess you are right, they are separate people, so i take my remark launched earlier on on garden rake back.

I doubt that. shadowthrome is a bit nuts, but I dont think he is nearly bad enough to do that!
