choice is not big, but whatever.
Who do you think achieved the most, having the least ground and the least outside help, who was the toughest mofo of them?

I was going to put the Assail Tyrant(s?), but after seeing your options, I have to go with Kellanved, despite his recent asshattery.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Depends on the interpretation of 'badass' I guess...

But if you count the fact that Kallor achieved empire in 50 years, and had a continent to rule; then subsequently annihilated ALL life on that continent rather than have control taken from him... Uh, Kallor wins.

Hirohito he wasn't.

Honourable mention might also go to the Letherii Emperor whose empire absorbed almost every cultural group on Lether with the exception of the Edur and the Jheck. Both groups may have gone down relatively quietly without the intervention of the CG. I say MAY here... speculation being what it is. But the Letherii did take down Bluerose Andii and Tarthenal (Toblakai).

well why I voted on Kallor... he didn't spend his time in Deadhouse. he didn't have so many able buddies like Kel had. he did it all by himself, and to counter him a cabal of mages called down armageddon. he cursed three elder gods, and was cursed by them - and he still manages to stay in the thick of the action.

yeah, but Kallor lost it all and got doomed to an eternity of mundane life and failure.

Kellanved forged an amazing Empire, was smart enough to ascend without getting cursed or having to kill millions of his own people, and won a whole realm for himself. plus he's the Emperor of the Imass too. and the master of the Hounds of Shadow. and an amazing mage. and all round legend - I love his quotes in chapter openings, the occasional glimpses of Kellanved's intelligence, the mind that made him an Emperor and a God.

the moment in Deadhouse Gates when it was revealed that the Emperor and Dancer had not died in truth, but ascended to become Ammanas and Cotillion...that was the moment when I became a total fan of this series.

how does Kallor compare to that? though I do like the way he challenges K'rul without hesitation late in MoI, the man has all the hubris that living 100,000-and-some years will give you.

what do we know about Dessimbelackis? he had some mysterious relationship with the Deragoth...he was rumoured to have a D'ivers form of seven beasts...and that his empire was lost too. or rather went nuts and got destroyed by the Imass. that's just not enough to make me prefer him.

it was obvios that kel an dancer hadnt died. theres a quote from GOTM by kalam that practically tells u that they ascended. It was so blatant

Here's something you also may not know, WHISKEYJACK USED TO COMMAND A COMPANY AND DUJEK DEFERRED TO HIM!

Now back on topic. Kallor. He keeps on getting beaten on but just keeps coming back for more and he always seems to have something extra up his sleeve. Plus I kinda like the whole "I have time on my side, I can wait, I will be back," attitude. :cool:

sure, that stuff is obvious when you reread it tiam (I don't know how make those fancy quote boxes) but first time round, particularly in GotM, it goes right over your head. an even more blatant example, there is a passage where Tattersail and Dujek are talking and they explicitly connect the deaths of Kellanved & Dancer and the first appearance of Shadowthrone & the Rope.

but when you read it the first time round you just don't pick up on these things. that's why a reread is such a rewarding experience.

do you seriously mean to say that when you first read GotM you said to yourself "hey, Kellanved & Dancer didn't die, they ascended to become Ammanas & Cotillion and occupied the Shadow Realm...it's obvious!"

but even if Shadowthrone and the Rope lose all they've achieved, they would still have a more impressive record than Kallor.

Ok, we can prattle on about forging lasting empires, but let us all remember this: All empires eventually fall.

Now, I nominate Kallor for being the most badass (badassest?), because, like what was said before, he exterminated life on an entire continent.

Badassery comes from what kind of crazy-ass deeds you do, be they taking out 30 guys single-handedly, to blowing up a city, but man, how badass are you when you take out an entire civiliazation, including one you just forged yourself?

@Danyah - well he sort of blew that one, didn't he?

I go with Kellanved because while he lost he Empire same as the other two, he did it deliberately, and left it standing. Kallor and Dessim' self-destructed but good.
