It's like watching the first 45 minutes of a film and then deciding to turn it off and watch a different film until half way through, before switching that one off and then watching the last part of the first film.

Please don't tell me you people do that, too!

I'm currently reading The Gone-Away World, Titus Groan, The Judging Eye, and I'm listening to The Final Empire. It's all about what I'm in the mood for. Right now, I'll probably only read Gone-Away until I finish it because it demands it - it's fucking awesome.

I'm just about to finish Theories of Flight, the second in the very enjoyable Metrozone trilogy by Simon Morden. Post-apocalyptic future nobel prize winning russian scientist goes crazy with the yakuza and experimental AI in London while everyone else is trying to kill him.

Pretty straightforward really

I would definitely recommend them if you're looking for a fun read.

Television show analogy is a good one and pretty spot on. I can read multiple books at a time with no problem but if something has really got me hook I'll usually demolish it before going back to whatever else I'm reading.

Just finished reading elegy by Mark Fetherston...got it for my birthday, and wasn't expecting it to be good.
It surpassed any expectations I could have had...it was amazing. It really moved me at some points, and I can't say that about many books.

Has anyone else ever read this? I've never met anyone else who has.

Well maybe. I do see the tv show point. Still...

On topic, though, I've got around 100 or so pages left of Rise of Endymion. I must say that this series has been insanely awesome.

Don't know what my next plan is. May or may not start a malazan reread. Has anyone read any of Dan Simmons's's's other books (such as...I want to say 'Illium' but I'm pretty sure it's not that. Something similar anyway...)? Are they worth reading?

Jade, brace yourself, I sometimes watch a movie halfway through and then change movies.

I go through periods where I have a very short attention span and half-viewed movies, multiple books and watching episodes from TV series here and there seem to be the result. I also like reading different types of book and I'll vary how much of one or the other i'm reading depending on my mood, or drop one at some point. Other times I'll read one book through and let nothing get in the way.

But at least my reading has gotten kind of back on track and I've finished a few books recently. At the moment I am just over half way through C.S. Lewis' retelling of the tale of Cupid and Psyche 'Till We Have Faces' which was recommended by KL and I am really enjoying it so far, it has quite a melancholy feel but there is a certain (if at times foreboding) charm to the writing.

I just finished the play I was reading alongside it as well 'The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus' by Marlowe. I enjoyed the ending of it but never felt very immersed in the whole thing, I much rather Goethe's poem of the tale, I just felt too disconnected from this.

Ilium and Olympos are worth reading. I'd say they're actually better written than his Hyperion Cantos, but he still can't put a real satisfying ending on it, despite some truly awesome stuff earlier.

Read The Terror, it's a slow burner of a tale, but really good.

Jade, I do get where you're coming from; until 2-3 years ago I also found the idea of polybookery (?) unfathomable. But once I tried it, it felt perfectly normal.

As for Dan Simmons, I think any of his stuff is worth at least checking out. The Ilium/Olympus duology is pretty awesome, even if the ending is pretty much a letdown. What a fantastic ride, though.

Coming from you, this is acceptable. I couldn't expect something so mundane and regular as watching a whole film in one go from you.

So yeah, I'll check out Ilium and Olympos then. Might reread something first though...

I've always wanted to read THE TERROR, since it concerns a historical event I've always been fascinated by...but also adds a supernatural tension to the proceedings.

I've simply not yet read Simmons, so that's probably why I've held off so long.

I think I may finally get around to reading GOOD OMENS next.

I know I know...huge Neil Gaiman fan...never read my copy of GOOD OMENS.

I listened to the audiobook of this and it was incredible. The narrator nailed it in that one. Sometimes a narrator can kill a good book (see Ysabel) but the Terror was freak'n perfect.
