Finished the second Felix Castor book VICIOUS CIRCLE by mike Carey. Damn but that guy can write! I think Castor is defo my second fave Urban fantasy lead after Dresden. And this book was better than the first one structure-wise. Loved every last minute of it.

Started in on GOOD OMENS last night, and I already dig it.

My book updates: In the last couple of months, I have read these Fantasy books: Both Scott Lynch Locke Lamora books, Neil Gaiman's American Gods and the whole Codex Alera series.

I also read some non fantasy/sci-fi, Donna Tartts "The Little Friend" (not nearly as gripping as The Secret History, but the ending was pretty sweet) and Danny Wallaces "Awkward Situations for Men" which had me laughing out loud on nearly every page. Plus a couple of quick thriller books I got for 50p each at a charity shop.

Now reading "The Player of Games" by Iain M Banks. Flipping love his novels, and while this one has a fairly slow start, I am enjoying the narrative...

Rise of Endymion was mentioned I think, so I guess that would be the Hyperion/Endymion stuff by Simmons?

Finally finished ABSOLUTE SANDMAN Vol. III (by Neil Gaiman of course) and was quite impressed by a good solid number of the stories/arcs. the one where Delerium and Dream look for Destruction only to find that the path to him is littered with...destruction was quite excellent.

Jill Thompson's Little Endless bit was GOLD (enough that there are apparently two children's storybooks with them)

I think my favourite's in that volume were RAMADAN (my god, the art in that issue was simply STUNNING! Plus the story was as excellent as anything he'd done in SANDMAN so far. The Golden Boy (about Prez Rickard) was heartbreakingly excellent as well...

I'm a little confused by the arc with the folk telling stories at the World's End pub that ends with...

the procession in the sky of a coffin lead by Destiny..and you can clearly see Desire, Delerium, and Despair...and people like Lucien, Matthew, Cain and Abel...no Dream...but also no Destruction...and I'm not sure if I was seeing the end of Dream or what...

Anyways, such a great volume, and luckily today I grabbed ABSOLUTE SANDMAN Vol. IV to continue my reading.

Also, still reading GOOD OMENS and savoring every bit because it's simply so excellent!

I'm disheartened by the fact that it's £49.99 on Amazon...I mean seriously?! Why so expensive?

That Del and Dream story is probably my fave from the series.

The issues collected within Volume 4 are the very best Sandman ever did.

You may want to look into follow up volumes of "sequels" or add-ons to the series. I did and really enjoyed the Endless Nights and Dream Hunters ones. The others weren't as good.


Also know that Lucifer is a comic that spun off from Sandman and similarly goes through a rough start before really getting awesome. The Lucifer series really gets into the myths and the reasons why the existence of the universe and characters are such in a way that is very different than Sandman - yet rather the same. I do warn you that it's a really rough start - sort of like the Covenant books - but what happens within that start ends up mattering in the later stories. The comic is only 75 issues of brilliance, but hits its stride much faster and with greater consistency than Sandman ever did.

Cool, yeah I am going to pick up ABSOLUTE SANDMAN Vol. V next (which collects a lot of those odds and ends)...and I also want ABSOLUTE DEATH.

I've been eyeballing LUCIFER...partly because it seems to be written by Mike Carey...which I'm always down for.

Over halfway through Gaiman & Pratchett's GOOD OMENS and you want to know how I know I am reading something special? Aside from the obviously great story? Because I don't want to keep reading because I fear the book ending and there won't be anymore. I realize that waiting over 20 years to read the book gave me ample time to savor...but dammit, I don't want the book to end!
