Powered through The Electric Church which was absolutely brilliant, and am now about one third of the way through The Passage, Justin Cronin - and once again, I am loving this book. Very different from my normal reads but I am trying to further broaden the old horizons. Read some fairly unkind reviews, imho, as the writing is top notch and very skillfully constructed, whilst the characters are complex, realistic and fascinating. Recommended.

Just started The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. I'm not really sure where the book is going to go but I'm enjoying the scholar/Dracula-hunting stuff.

Just finished The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie and now I've started Before They are Hanged. Good stuff. I actually have Bakker's The Darkness that Comes Before and Infinite Jest sitting here but I got a Kindle for Christmas and downloaded Abercrombie for fun and now I've got to finish the series before I move on to Bakker.

Always reading Steven Erikson, China Mieville, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Dan Simmons, Alastair Reynolds, Joe Abercrombie, and Christopher Moore.

Finished City of Ruin by Mark Charan Newton. A really gripping novel. Definitely an improvement over Nights of Villjamur

Finished "The Way of Kings" yesterday. Despite some minor annoyances, I thought it was awesome. Especially the last 100-150 pages, fucking epic.

Ok I just finished Brent Weeks' Shadow's Edge and have the third book Beyond the Shadow downloaded on my Nook but my copy of Stonewielder finally showed up the other day after taking longer than a month to make the trek from the Book Depository to my front door. So should I finish the Night Angel trilogy or should I leave off the last book and read Stonewielder first? Any suggestions...

Finished "The Sword of the Lictor", volume 3 in the Book of New Sun. I like this series, though I have almost no idea as to where it's going, still. and this is after finishing 3 books out of 4.

also contemplating what i'll be reading while in school, since i'll have to bring those books with me tomorrow. I'm thinking of giving Mistrborn a miss for now, since the 3 books would take up a lot of space. I'm bringing "the Drawing of the three", as per my New year's resolution and also probably Paul Kearney's "monarchies of God", because they are small books and shouldn't take up much space.

Nearly a third of the way into The Historian. It's getting a bit cheesy, with librarians apparently working for Dracula and attacking people randomly. It's all a bit schlocky to be honest. Not sure whether I'll finish it.

Just started reading Five Greatest Warriors by Matthew Reilly... It's quite hilariously badly written; I mean, it reads like bad fanfic. I can see what he's trying to do; a bunch of supercool badasses fighting against ancient global conspiracies for the fate of the entire world... It just... he has the language and characterisation skills of a remarkably unsophisticated ten year old . It's quite painful to read.

Well, during the flight, I have finished "Citadel of the Autarch" and thus, the Book of the New Sun. It was... interesting. all the wordiness challenges aside, I found it to be an interesting work, even if there was no real conclusion. I mean

and it didn't really provide a resolution. But, since that's how i'm expecting MBotF to end, I suppose I can't complain of that. this was just another "slice of history", and I've enjoyed the ride.

NExt up, i'll give Paul Kearney an shot. Either "the Ten Thousand" or the "Monarchies of God" series. any suggestons?
