Okay wow. I was really remiss not having read this till now. RETURN OF THE CRIMSON GUARD by ICE is effing crazy awesome even after only 140 pages!

Enjoying!

Also: I checked out a chapter or two of THE PATH OF DAGGERS on audio and I think I will fair better with the audio versions for the next couple of books, as it's better if I don't have to READ about nothing happening....I don't mind listening to it.

So there I am aimlessly walking around our local shops in my lunch break and I pop into the book shop thinking I may try and see if they have for some reason extended their fantasy section beyond a 3 ft wide book shelf and that maybe ive not read them all. And what do I see but Book 13 of the wheel of time.

Book thirteen I cry . what the hell happened there? I was sure there were only to be 12 and the last one I knew about was the knife of dreams book 11 and then the poor author passed away.

at the time I was pretty bummed as this was the series that got me reading in the first place. then shortly after I heard tale of his notes being used by a Branden Sanderson to possibly finish the series. that was the last I heard of it.

so there I was in the shop clutching this book to my breast as if it was a winning lotto ticket shaped like Kelly brook, when I look across the way and see book 12.

book 12 also! so I skipped like a man on acid over to the shelf and scooped that up also.

so book 12 - the gathering storm was actually pretty good. and it help push the story along onto a finish I think.

book 13 im about 40 pages in already and its running along the same theme. much faster paced then the older books and you can tell the difference in writing. but still good.

I thought book 13 would be the last as it has a special reference within the story but nooooooooooooooooo apparently it’s the penultimate book so I have one more to go.

I cant begin to describe how pleased I am that the story will be finished. and although the series isn't really in the same calibre as MBOTF or some of the more " classic " series in the genre it is something dear to me as it started the ball rolling with my reading in the first place.

so if you have never read them all I suggest you do. mat is my fave character. perrin needs some ants in his pants and rand should have more luck with the ladies.

anyhow. that’s it

But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

What he said.

Also, you saw book 13 and didn't think there was a book 12 until you saw it across the way?

No to the first question - i knew he had popped his cloggs but thought the final note driven book was eons away still. and im not as active as i once was.

second question = yes. the hard back for the 13th was at the front i then saw the 12 book and then had to try and remember if i had read it already as i was in state of epic shock

makes no sense i know but still. i have them now

I went the Flawed route here. I boguht the two new WoT books, The Gathering Storm and Towers of Midnight, and have been powering through the series on a full reread. Having a week off from school, I read books 7,8,9 over the last few days and just started Crossroads of Twilight. To be honest, I have to skim all the Aes Sedai sections since I just have no interest in them, but I've read them before. I won't be skimming when I get to Sanderson, very excited for those two.

And yes I did know about these books being out, but I held off from TGS so I could have more than one to read. I was planning to wait til A Memory of Light, but couldn't make it.

The Blade Itself by Jpe Abercrombie. I thought it was decent. I almost gave up about half way through as it was nothing special and a lot of torturing. The second half was better as things get explained and more fantasy elements come onto play. I liked it enough to read the next book.

Similar situation with me. I read it about a year ago and was underwhelmed. People say the series gets better, so I decided to read Before They Are Hanged. I'm about 25% of the way through and it's more of the same. Decent writing, but nothing is happening.

True! The! Series! Really! Does! Get! Better!!!!

But yah it's a bit slow for the first 1.5 books or so, to its detriment at times. Book three is more or less breakneck tho' and BEST SERVED COLD, well.... that book is just plain awesomebird basted in awesomesauce.

I dislike recomending that someone 'push thru' to get to the really good stuff - even the infamous GotM200 or the first two books in the Dresden Files are 'good' at a minimum, as opposed to say, boring or weak - but i do think that Abercrombie improves and the payoff for the reader is worthwhile.

Also, things 'splode, dudes get stabbed, shit gets fucked up real good. AND there's plot.

Here's hoping... I have a little red piece of paper from the Royal Mail telling me they tried to deliver a package at 12:35pm yesterday (Seriously, 12 fucking 35? Lazy bastards).

In other words, Stoneweilder is waiting. Can it wait until I finish BTAH?

Finished The Dark Tower yesterday. Finally. Took me three months not because it was bad, but because of a lack of time. Anyway, it was a seemingly endless journey, but in the end, I really like it. I also like the end.

Now reading Fishin' with Grandma Matchie by SE while waiting for Stonewielder to arrive. It's also nice to read a book with less than a hundred pages for a change.

Finished Kraken by China Mieville. Itt took a bit to get into (roughly 100 pages) but once it did, it was a great read. As always I'm left open-mouthed at Mieville's imagination. Anyone who can make ink and a tattoo look scary has my admiration.

Thanks. I liked it enough to continue and look forward to the awesomeness kicking in. As for what I'm reading now almost finished Memories of Ice, loving it.

Currently reading the 9'th Garrett novel, love them all, but the first one is still my favorite. Nothing better than Garrett and Morley going out and cracking some skulls.

I don't follow author blogs at all, so I could be waaay off base here, but I really get the feeling GRRM's favourite part is writing the night's watch plotline. He's a very skilled author and I have no trouble conjuring images of scenes at any place in the book, but the whole thing seems to get a little extra polish on the night's watch chapters. For some reason those parts of the book really pop in my brain to the point where I almost have audio to accompany my extra-vivid mental images.

Or maybe it's just cause I like the plot line the best of all so far.

Whatev. Praise for this book.

damn... I envy you. the ending of this book will blow your mind.
