Okay wow. I was really remiss not having read this till now. RETURN OF THE CRIMSON GUARD by ICE is effing crazy awesome even after only 140 pages!

Also: I checked out a chapter or two of THE PATH OF DAGGERS on audio and I think I will fair better with the audio versions for the next couple of books, as it's better if I don't have to READ about nothing happening....I don't mind listening to it.

So there I am aimlessly walking around our local shops in my lunch break and I pop into the book shop thinking I may try and see if they have for some reason extended their fantasy section beyond a 3 ft wide book shelf and that maybe ive not read them all. And what do I see but Book 13 of the wheel of time.
Book thirteen I cry . what the hell happened there? I was sure there were only to be 12 and the last one I knew about was the knife of dreams book 11 and then the poor author passed away.
at the time I was pretty bummed as this was the series that got me reading in the first place. then shortly after I heard tale of his notes being used by a Branden Sanderson to possibly finish the series. that was the last I heard of it.
so there I was in the shop clutching this book to my breast as if it was a winning lotto ticket shaped like Kelly brook, when I look across the way and see book 12.
book 12 also! so I skipped like a man on acid over to the shelf and scooped that up also.
so book 12 - the gathering storm was actually pretty good. and it help push the story along onto a finish I think.
book 13 im about 40 pages in already and its running along the same theme. much faster paced then the older books and you can tell the difference in writing. but still good.

No to the first question - i knew he had popped his cloggs but thought the final note driven book was eons away still. and im not as active as i once was.
second question = yes. the hard back for the 13th was at the front i then saw the 12 book and then had to try and remember if i had read it already as i was in state of epic shock

I went the Flawed route here. I boguht the two new WoT books, The Gathering Storm and Towers of Midnight, and have been powering through the series on a full reread. Having a week off from school, I read books 7,8,9 over the last few days and just started Crossroads of Twilight. To be honest, I have to skim all the Aes Sedai sections since I just have no interest in them, but I've read them before. I won't be skimming when I get to Sanderson, very excited for those two.
And yes I did know about these books being out, but I held off from TGS so I could have more than one to read. I was planning to wait til A Memory of Light, but couldn't make it.

Similar situation with me. I read it about a year ago and was underwhelmed. People say the series gets better, so I decided to read Before They Are Hanged. I'm about 25% of the way through and it's more of the same. Decent writing, but nothing is happening.

I dislike recomending that someone 'push thru' to get to the really good stuff - even the infamous GotM200 or the first two books in the Dresden Files are 'good' at a minimum, as opposed to say, boring or weak - but i do think that Abercrombie improves and the payoff for the reader is worthwhile.
Also, things 'splode, dudes get stabbed, shit gets fucked up real good. AND there's plot.

Finished The Dark Tower yesterday. Finally. Took me three months not because it was bad, but because of a lack of time. Anyway, it was a seemingly endless journey, but in the end, I really like it. I also like the end.
Now reading Fishin' with Grandma Matchie by SE while waiting for Stonewielder to arrive. It's also nice to read a book with less than a hundred pages for a change.

Finished Kraken by China Mieville. Itt took a bit to get into (roughly 100 pages) but once it did, it was a great read. As always I'm left open-mouthed at Mieville's imagination. Anyone who can make ink and a tattoo look scary has my admiration.
