Went on vacation, killed the latest Dresden book while on the plane. This wasn't my favorite book in the series but still enough major stuff happened in it to keep me reading till 2am.

About half-way through the second book of David B Coe's Blood of the Southlands. I enjoyed his Winds of the Forelands series, and I'm liking this series so far as well.

I finished Jeff Carlson's novel, "Plague Year". It is not the best post-apocalyptic novel I read, but it is a fast and relaxing read. And the premises of the scenario are pretty disturbing. (my full review)

Just finished reading Andy Remic's 'BioHell', three seriously tooled up soldiers against a planet full of zombies...! 'BioHell' works as a big, brash, blockbuster but I was left wanting a little bit more from it (especially when that was what it seemed to be promising), my full review is over Here.
I'm now reading Kelley Armstrong's 'The Awakening', Lane Robin's 'Kings & Assassins' and Tim Lebbon's 'Fallen'...

I'm giving Shadowmarch by Tad Wiliams another go. I recall liking many aspects of it, and gave it a bad rep cause I guessed at something the characters didn't....but It's going much better this time and I am paying more attention.

Just finished David B Coe's "Blood of the Southlands" book two...

Started to read Brent Week's "The Way of the Shadows" and I picked up the latest Nightwatch book "Last watch" from the store at the same time...

Just finished The Warrior-Prophet by R. Scott Bakker. Epic ending (the last 50-100ish pages or so) but a lot of the buildup was really meh. The successive battles were ridiculous with the number of different factions he named (all of which were more or less faceless), but the conclusion definitely made up for it.

Going to go to the library when I get a chance and grab The Thousand-Fold Thought later this week.

Finished reading Lane Robins' 'Kings and Assassins', a book with the most self-explanatory title ever! It's a tough one to get into at first (very slow) but it's worth if for a tale full of scheming and intrigue with occasional bursts of dazzling swordplay. My full review is over Here. I'm now finishing off Tim Lebbon's 'Fallen'...

Finished reading Tim Lebbon's 'Fallen', a book of voyages, and voyagers, that's driven by a sense of the unknown (just beyond the horizon) but suffers from occasional slow pacing and a pivotal plot moment that demands a character act... well... out of character. I thought so anyway. My full review is over Here. Absolutely no idea what to read next...

Recently finished Storm Front, which was pretty good but I get the feeling the rest of the series will get even better. Certainly makes me want to read the rest, even though I don't usually like first person PoV.

Now reading The Naked God, because I pretty much have to. There are a few threads that could do with being completely cut out (due to the mind-numbing boredom they induce) but I am hoping for a damn good payoff for the effort.

After years of sitting in my nightstand, Vellum by Hal Duncan. So far, enjoying it. Fncking weird...
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Finished The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie and started Before They are Hanged.

I don't see what all the hype around the book was about. I enjoyed reading it and the fact that I started to read book II immediately after the book I, instead of taking a break and reading at least one stand alone says a lot, but it is not outstanding. It is not brilliant, fantastic. It is just quite good :)
One serious flaw, is a missing map. I think I have seen somewhere on Joe's blog or his website that he doesn't like maps and thinks it is unnecessary but I disagree and thanks to a The First Law's fan Scubamarco, who created 2 wonderful maps, I can enjoy the books a lot more.

I finished up A Madness of Angels by Kate Griffin last week. I really enjoyed it - her approach to urban magic in London is amazing. (full review)

Up now is The Nights of Villjamur by Mark Charan Newton.

Is it a stand alone book? No sequels expected?

Sequels are expected (in fact the second book is also due this year) but the story here seems pretty closed and it seems more like a Discworld-style series of standalone books than a straight series. But then again the same could be said for the first Dresden Files and Felix Castor books so who knows.

Starting Les Miserables by Victor Hugo which has been on "my to read" list for, well, years. I hope it's as good as so many people sayit is. Notre-Dame de Paris didn't really impress me.

Just finished Joe Abercrombie's excellent Best Served Cold. It's the perfect mix of black humor and violence, and a nice tale of revenge to boot!

Check out the blog for the full review. . . :)
