Just finished Justina Robson's Keeping it Real. A fun and entertaining read, quite different from what this short-listed author has accustomed us to.
Another Pyr offering, another good read!
Check the blog for all the details!

For Bread Alone by Mohamed Choukri. I'm teaching it this week. When he wrote it in the early 1970s no Arabic publisher would print it. It was translated into French. Now I see why. It's pretty racy (and gross). Erikson would benefit from reading for his scenes of depravity and poverty. (It deals with the effects of poverty on the institutions of civilization, like family, gender, social grace and decency.)

Tales from Earthsea & The Other Wind by Ursula K. Le Guin. A wonderful book by a great author.

I read that years ago and forgotten most of what happens in it, but I remember that I really enjoyed it.
I have recently found a stash of David Eddings books, and despite my better judgement am reading some of them again... Currently on "Belgarath the Sorceror", though I can't find the Belgariad or the Mallorean... Maybe at my parents house...

Currently reading The Lies of Locke Lamora - it's as good as people say.

locke Lamora is definitely worth the effort. Having a break from fantasy so am combining the world is flat with Peter Cook's bography - an interesting juxtaposition.

Just started The Scar by China Mievelle.
Also reading the Deathnote manga series, and tomorrow I will scoop up and devour the new One Piece when it is released (#44--they just finished a huge story arc so I have no idea what to expect!).

Kage read Perdido street station and Scar, if you enjoy them avoid Iron Counsil. It has its good points, but IC is just... really bad compared to the other two.

I wouldn't have called it really bad. more like very different. And his ending, while perfectly suiting the story, comes off a little weak.

That's a classic Mieville trait though... great book, leading right up to the end, then... Nothing. I loved reading The Scar, til the last couple of chapters...

Amazon's put it back to May at the moment, Im tempted not to pre-order it from there as they might receive it in April and get confused and not send it to me for ages. The fools!

Fromk my experience, if they get it before the date they advertise right now, they send it to you right away. So, you receive it a few days or even weeks before the promised day (which is nice IMHO).

I've just finished Tales from Earthsea & The Other Wind by Ursula K. Le Guin and am starting The Amulet of Samarkand, the first part of the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud. Has anybody read it?
