Reading BLACKVEIL by Kristen Britain and it's scratching the "stuck at home with COVID" itch. These books very much feel like warm cozy reads....even if Karrigan's prudishness can be a bit insufferable at times. LOL
Oh and AVOID the audiobooks of this series at all costs....I barely made it through HIGH KINGS TOMB as the narrator is terrible with the worst fake accents I've ever heard in my life.
They read much better than listen.

60 pages into Amongst our Weapons. I think there might be Lord of the Rings and Angels in this book. Color me psyked.

I love the foxes in these Rivers of London books. The straight forward way they work is so endearing.

Wrestled my way through Ulysses by James Joyce. Worst book ever written. Currently reading Ready Player One, then going to tackle Shogun.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Finished Amongst our Weapons by Ben Aaronovitch.
Cried like a baby at the ending. What an ending and what a start. I hope Aaronovitch gets to write this series for the next twenty years and the stories keep evolving.

Read a little Tor short story called "On Safari in R'lyeh and Carcosa with Gun and Camera" by Elizabeth Bear. Fun take on the average Innsmouth inspired Lovecraft story but it doesn't bring anything new to the table.
Time to start Princess Bride.

Missed that this had come out, christ what a recommendation Apt.
Also I think given Abyss' luck with reading selections recently we should watch his TRP with caution as a likely prophesy of the latest fantasy world drama.

I really enjoy Aaronovitch story telling. It's refreshing that the Rivers' stories aren't about the end of the world and chosen ones and other kinds of unnecesary raising of the stakes each book.
Every book is about straight forward police work and a secondary overarching plot about a wizard detective and his family and social circle. It's safe and cozy and deeply engrossing.
Still desperately need more spin-off stories about Abigail and the foxes.

All these books are at my local library. Once I've cleared my trp in going to stay on them. I read the first couple a number of years ago but not read them since.

Green Rider is one of those comfortable series that you can no thoughts head empty. Blackveil was fun. It's been a few years.

Finished A Crown for Cold Silver. It's very very good. Universally interesting POV characters (and well-drawn non-POV characters), extremely well-paced for what is a long-ish book, delightfully irreverent prose, a cool fantasy world with lots to explore, and consistently funny without being a parody. Plenty of pathos and tragedy too, but he doesn't twist the knife quite as crushingly as SE nor as cruelly as Abercrombie -- at least so far. Anyway, its biggest flaw imo is its generic (if serviceable) title, which doesn't really let on how fun or full of personality this book is.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Here's something very disappointing... Pierce Brown is doing a Red Rising... Something as a series of NFTs...

Actually the more I think about this the more annoyed I get. I'm nearly finished with Iron Gold but I'm very much inclined to not bother with Dark Age or get the third one when it comes out...
Here's a Reddit thread where people who understand NFTs better than I explain it and why they're bad... https://www.reddit.c...tm_source=share

LOL I always wanted to exclusively own a drawing of Ragnar as a chimpanzee wearing sunglasses and a Hawaiian shirt.

It's really hitting the spot right now when I need comfy reads. I have all the books (including the most recent released last year) in my TBR so get to, so lots ahead. And Britain is hard at work on the 8th book now too.

Listening to REVELATION (Rai-Kirah #2) by Carol Berg. I'm loving this series just as much as I did when I first read it. I can't wait for you to get to these QT.
