All I can say is the last time a bunch you got hyped over a book it was THE LIBRARY AT MOUNT CHAR and that was phenomenal so I'm ready for GIDEON to he great!

The only characters with anything more than surface depth are Arki, Killcoin, and Lloi...every other member of the group of an interchangeable "thug".

Killcoin is Shakespeare when he wants to dress people down, but otherwise is just a gruff commander. The typical run of things is:

Killcoin makes unpopular decision
Gets argued with about it
Does long speech about thing and why he did it
Everyone who is dressed down kind of understands
Rinse, and repeat.

Like this was about 50-60% of the book. And because of the nature of the book (an "embedded with the troops" firsthand account), we never get much of a deeper dive on ANYONE but how Arki sees them.

Not remotely my cup of tea.
