BK was right all along. Bachelor in Paradise is epic.

I tried to write that, my phone started automatically deleting it once I got past "BK was right"

I stopped watching the Bachelorette YEARS ago...the other two I'll happily cop to.

Started Fallen Angels at work today.

A lot more enjoyable than the last Dark angels book by far, about 2/3 through

Why not get the ebook from The Black Library? That's what I do with the 40k books.

Finished "God's War". It's like an unholy mix of grimdark and a Michael Bay summer blockbuster.

Yep, definitely buying and reading the rest of this trilo this year.

next up in commute, I think I'll try Steph Swainston's "The Year of Our War"

i think the Takeshi Kovacs books by Richard Morgan have a tendency to decline as they go on. Reading Woken Furies and I can barely tolerate it.

On the other hand Seanan McGuire's October Daye books definitely ascend in quality. Really enjoying that series.

Just finished Skullsworn by Brian Staveley, author of the Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne Series.

I have read and enjoyed Book 1 and 2 of the series. Waiting on my order of book 3, The Last Mortal Bond.

Skullsworn as a standalone seems to have left a far better impression on me than Providence of Fire and Blades of the Emperor.

It felt compact, refreshingly clear in its story arc. I find the Protagonist interesting. Pyrre was introduced in the main series as a badass, compelling in her role. Skullsworn has her recant the story of her past, explaining the steps she took in her trial. Any other book you could make Pyrre a villain, but Staveley knows how to write along the grey line between good and evil. She is her own hero and drags the reader in to appreciate her worldview from page one.

I think Skullsworn is as good as, if not better than The Name of the Wind, Waking Fire and . Completion plays a major part in that. Finishing this was as satisfying as stopping the microwave at midnight, 1 second before it was going to beep.

I don't think you can dive straight in, at the very least give Emperors Blades a try first.

Otherwise, I recommend it. One of the best books I've read this year outside of the Malazan books by ICE.

Being as good as TNOTW would make something exactly average. The praise does not glow!

I've not been motivated to read past book 1 of COTUT - The first one was OK but overhyped and didn't deliver as much as I was told it would (I'd put it around a 7/10 or so). I also heard that the latter books take a dip in quality overall?

I've got my eye on Unhewn Throne, but I keep wondering about revisiting TNOTW. Bit reluctant when there's still no news of book three though (unless I've missed anything!)

Agreed. Solidly good throughout. The character trajectories change as their surroundings and he setting does....but everything they become is telegraphed in Book 1, so it's all there. I liked all three.

I think that was one of my issues with Book 1 - it felt kind of linear and telegraphed. Not bad but not great. I may revisit it if I run out of stuff to read.

Ole Sandy will wind up finishing Kvothey Potter.

I kinda want to go back and finish this series. Will need to reread from the beginning because I don't remember it too well. I did like the blank monks though. I also think to myself if its been so long and you kinda forgot about it maybe its not worth the effort.
