Dude. Don't diss breakfast. Most important meal of the day. Though i hardly ever have it.

I accept my error in this particular matter. Gomenasai, my local sir.

Spoons brekkie at 8am with a pint is always ooft.

Breasts, Brewskis?

Anyway. I could care less about the length of a book, as long as it feels like the right length after i've read it. And the Path books feel perfect to me. As did Eriksons monsters.

For me, I absolutely hate when books rush without said rush adding to a sense of pace. Path, so far, has just felt rushed to me. We'll see if he brings it back with the last one but... Eh. I've been disappointed so far.

Finished up Deadhouse Landing and it might have been slightly less awesome then Dancer's Lament but I really want the next one! Lighter fair then Eriksons but in these books Esslemont is often much more entertaining then Erikson, who is usually only that entertaning in passages.

Finished Brust's Athyra and Orca. The identity reveal at the end of Orca was an unexpected twist. I'm not too happy with it, but I'll give Brust the benefit of my doubt — he hasn't steered too far off the mark yet.

I read the first page of Marshall's A Crown For Cold Silver, then decided I needed more VLAD AND LOIOSH!

On to Dragon and Issola.

Just over halfway point in The Red Knight , and it's pretty awesome. Don't get the jumping PoV criticism at all.

I bought The Naturalist in a sale to read on the plane. It's an especially terrible book, and my advice is to stay far away from this pile of drivel.

Finished LORDS & LADIES by Pratchett. Another cracker by the master featuring the Witches! Some truly great stuff in that book.

Started on THE WINDS OF KHALAKOVO by Bradley Beaulieu, and so far I'm quite intrigued by it. Solid writing and pacing with very interesting characters. I adore the concept of mountainous islands where the cities are high up in the mountains and on precipices, enough that they need and use windships, and there is still water below and small enclaves. I thought I'd have some trouble with the Russian names, but so far I'm not at all. GREAT stuff. Glad I bought the whole series ($3) on kindle sale yesterday!

Finished Green Rider. It was OK. Not going to go out of my way to get book 2. I started the Expanse.

I have read another book by Beaulieu and I quite liked it. Like you I too love the premise of this series. Will pick it up soon.

Finished Blinding Knife. Loved it. This is series is a lot of fun to read.

Also finished Sylvain Neuvel's Only Human. An ok conclusion to a series that had started off to a lot of promise.

Must be. I've had a couple people whose tastes I respect give it praise. (It was free through Kindle First Reads, so I grabbed it; no idea when I'll get to it.)
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Book 2 is a lot better. Book 1 isn't what I'd call great at all, but the series does progress. It's a set I read when I want some fluffy flutter.

The genius scientist of all trades with a background as a paramedic and from the army becomes embroiled in the murder of a former student. His brilliance leads him to see what others did not, but his social ineptness makes it hard for him to convince the police. He has no personality to speak of, but what little he has changes drastically several times to fit the plot. No explanation given. One moment he is a patient scientist, the next a man forced to impulsive acts by a curiosity strong to the point of insanity. Then back to patient scientist. He is incapable of cooperating with anyone, expect for when he isn't. He is incapable of dealing with social cues except for when he isn't. He is a coward except for when he isn't. There's one woman of note in the book, a beautiful waitress and former soldier whom is both more competent than he is and hysterical and entirely dependent on him to get them out of danger. Did I mention that she's beautiful and the romantic interest of our professor-hero?

The plot takes a couple of turns that are so stupid I felt physical pain reading them, and the end is Zack Snyder levels of terrible.

You had to tell me book 2 is better...alright, I'll add it to my wish list so I can keep tabs on it.

Finished Road Brothers! Thanks again to whoever it was that reminded me it exists. It's pretty good! Some of the stories are more like "That was neat!" while others were fully "That was awesome!" but there were no duds.

Now I'm starting...dundunDUN...The Darkness That Comes Before. We'll see what all the hubbub is about.

I always do, bud, I always do.
Hopefully by the end of this I will understand all the board's Bakker references and in-jokes.

My best advice is to read it when you want something light and easy. It never becomes a branching, complex series at all, but certainly the last few books have been pretty dark compared to the tone of the first.

To be perfectly honest, the principal reason I always wanted to read that series was the name - The Darkness That Comes Before - it sounded so cool.

Currently reading Wrath of Empire and Price of Spring.

Wrath of Empire is great so far, and Price of Spring is surprisingly good, considering I don't really like the preceding books.
Also listening to The Broken Eye which is also excellent.
