...And I'm suddenly reminded that I do have all the Caine books on Kindle now (thanks Amazon UK!) and can just pull them up any time I want and I really should get to rereading it (again)... Fuck.

It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Red Sister is the best thing Mark Lawrence has ever done. It is a riveting, brutal, touching, and fun ride with Nona, the main character.

At one point, Lawrence writes the very best description of what a fight is like for a woman that I have ever seen. It is so good, I'm writing it down to use in other places. Fighting isn't aikido or take Kwon do. It's not BJJ either, but that's closer. Lawrence understands this. It's important.

finished "Bitter Seeds" re-read. Tossing "Coldest War" in my bag as next commute read.

At home, I'm a few chapters into the third book in the Inheritance trilogy omnibus, and.... i dunno. I like the concepts, and its a pretty creative setup, but for some reason it doesn't leave a lasting impression that means I have to keep reading.

The third book of the Inheritance trilogy is probably the weakest.

What is notable about this series is that its not like a traditional trilogy where one big story is played out over three books. Each of the books is pretty self contained.

So I am about halfway into Wuthering Heights and this book continues to confuse me. Its got a very gripping and compelling story, but the extraordinary depth to which emotions like anger, jealousy and vengefulness are depicted here is truly striking.

Sho Gun update?

410 pages in. Now I can honestly say that I understand the stakes of the situation and the political triangle between Toranaga, Ishido and the Jesuits. Its all extremely interesting.

Glad your taking that one slow!

Its a book that rewards a lower pace I think. There are a lot of cultural and political details to assimilate, and I am pretty sure if I miss a couple of details now something else won't make sense later.

Of course another contributing factor is how totally busy I currently am. If I had a few days off I would probably finish it faster.

I just finished reading Bitter Seeds for the first time this morning. I thought it was a bit uneven. I'd be curious to hear what you think of the later books as I'm not ensnared enough to put the rest of the trilogy on my to buy list. Mind you there's about 180 books on there so what's one more...

Finished Lightbringer 2. Am pausing before 3, though it was a highly entertaining book, better than the first. It's it worth continuing considering I don't have the 4th and there's no word on the 5th?

After 4 days I'm halfway through Sandman Slim. It's a much quicker read than Fall of Light. :) It's a fun distraction book. Honestly, with the Urban Fantasy novels, I'm more interested in how the authors tackle the urban with the fantasy than the characters, plot, etc. It looks like I'm just getting to that point in SS.

It's definitely worth continuing. Weeks does a terrific job with Blood Mirror, the fourth book that came out late last October (2016). Weeks has been good about getting his books out every couple years. So we should get the fifth some time in late 2018 or early 2019 if the pattern holds up.

JOHN DIES AT THE END. Fuck me, this is a funny book. The earbook narrator is great. DOG-SALSA!!!!

FIERCE GODS. Surprisingly, this is so good that i'm actually kind of upset it's the end of the series, but credit to Buchanan he appears to be tieing everything together very nicely.

This is a FANTASTIC little arc of the series too. Self-contained as it were as well.

Sins of Empire by Brian McClellan. So far it is fantastic. I really enjoyed the Powder Mage series and this one is set in the same world with some of the same characters.

Deal with it. I'm almost done. 1 is Safehold 8, 2 is Expanse 5, 3 is IT

There is a point to it.

Ok, i'll bite: What's the point?

I'd like to know as well. Posting random numbers does seem kind of pointless. You're not even saying which book's you're reading, never mind that just giving page numbers isn't telling anything to anyone but yourself.

That said, on topic: Finished The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps and feel like half of it may have flown by me somewhat, which means I loved it and will be rereading at some point. Also finished the follow-up-but-not-quite-second-volume A Taste of Honey, which was much more straightforward but nonetheless fun. Imma gonna be watching this guy named Kai Ashante Wilson and grabbing whatever he writes for the time being.
