Hmmm

Just finished The Vagrant, by Peter Newman.

It was ok, just ok, it kind of "nothinged" me. There was enough flashback and world building for me to get to grips with the setting, and the setting was fine, interesting enough, a world that's already been run past its limits, surviving on intensive farming and tech, gets invaded basically.
But it was just...dull.
of the characters, Harm is easily the best, because he's the most fleshed out, the Vagrant himself, well, I wont spoil anything but there's little to him, its and interesting premise for a protagonist, but it just annoyed me.
And everything works out too easily, I'm not one for the characters constantly getting shit on, but there was never any dire threats.

blegh, it was cheap enough, but I can't see me biting for round two

Just over 50 pages into "Canticle for Leibowitz". It's making me want to play Fallout. And then re-read Psalms of Isaac (I won't do that, b/c the last book is coming out next year, and I still need to hunt down bk 4 somewhere).

How far are you into fall out?

I'm currently reading Dresden Files, I am up to Turn Coat. It's soooo good.

A little more than 1/2 way through A Crown for Cold Silver. NHL Playoffs have been eating into my reading time.

So, the map is pretty interesting. I've noticed a few places that seem to reference Metal bands:

Lemi – Lemmy Kilmeister
Meshugg - Meshuggah
Slair New & Old - Slayer
Azgaroth - Asgaroth
Bal-Amon - Amon Amarth/Bal-Sagoth
The Panteran Wastes - Pantera

edit to ad a stretch: Crimson Empire & the Star could be a reference to either King Crimson or the Red Star Republic.

To my shame, I never managed to get far into Fallout 1. And haven't tried 2 yet. 3 is on the list of games to play in the near-ish future

The other interesting thing about "Canticle for Leibowitz I that I'm actually in the last week of Lent... though obv not that hardcore, it's an interesting parallel

Not heard any thoughts on FoL yet. Without spoilers has anyone who has finished it want to comment on whether they liked it or not?

Still ploughing through FoD as I haven't had as much time to read as I'd like. Hyped for FoL though!

Im about 10% in.
Its been so long since I've read erikson, I forgot how ridiculously well spoken basically every character is.
But its good to get back to Malazan.
Bit of action at the start then it slows dow. Again. Quite a hefty book with thought required, compared to what I've been devouring lately (american gods aside)

Ribald posted a review (or link to one) in the FoL forum.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Do you mean SE + ICE Malaz books? I'm sure wiki or goodreads is your friend for that.
Or do you mean "books like Malaz"? Cuz i'm sure we got like 5-6 threads on that, ;)

If it's the first case wikipedia is the best option imo

I also keep an up-to-date series list on LibraryThing.

Yeah it's taken me almost a week to get 1/4 through it, partially due to time and partially because it's so damn heavy/dense.
Debut novel 'Incarnate' now available on Kindle

Put down LAST MORTAL BOND for now (wasn't feeling it), and started MORT by Pratchett...which is...of course, awesome!

Finished up my reread of FoD. I enjoyed it more the second time. Going to do the audiobook of FoL. Clocks in at about 45 hours. This will take me a few weeks.
