I've been wanting to ask people here, and I may not get much of a response yet. Can anyone tell whether it is better to read DL or FoL first? I know most people will say that it doesn't matter. But for example, Azathanai were introduced in FoD, and then suddenly BaB starts making mention of them. So it was better to read FoD before BaB, in my opinion. Is there anything like this going on with FoL and DL? Publication order may not be best here because the writers have little control over that.

Finished a Crown for Cold Silver. Very good. Will get the next book when it is released. Black Sun Rising is on sale (at least in the States), on Amazon. Kindle price is $1.99, I've always meant to read it, so I picked it up.

I haven't read FoL yet but DL is kind of separate anyway. Any links will be minimal.

Nealy finished Shadowline the first book in Glen Cook's starfishers and why the hell didn't this book grip me the first two-three times I tried it. Its as good as anything Cook has written when it gets going and better then quite a bit off it. Nearly getting tempted to re-read my Norse myth for the first time in ages after this one, to really catch all the references as right now I'm missing stuff.
Good to hear. Shadowline and Darkwar are the only two series I haven't read yet. And this is coming up soon in my TBR pile.
About 20% into FoL and loving it so far!

about 100 pages into "Zoo City", liking it. The tone and feel are a lot like "Altered Carbon". Pacing is good, and the basic concept is pretty neat so far.

I finished The Spider's War by Daniel Abraham. I'm not entirely comfortable with how the series ended.
Overall, I still really enjoyed the series and will be reading whatever Mr. Abraham puts out next.
Next up is FoL.

The second one was much less impressive but I'm still going into the third on the strength of it being Cook and the first book.

Reading Traitor's Blade by Sebastien De Castell. Loved it to start with, but it went downhill from about the hallway mark. The torturer, Ethalia, the speech at the Rock. I just didn't believe any of them. Hope the ending is better.

@west 33 - Oh my, a massive difference to my take of the book, I loved the whole thing from start to finish. I went into it with the good Musketeers film in my head though, expecting a bit of buckled swash and ridiculous odds.
@andorion, I just wanted to give everyone a good look at the cover. going to start the book soon

Finished my commute book, "Sleeping in on Judgement Day", the last in the Bobby Dollar trilo by Tad Williams. Had an extra-long commute both ways, and ended up having smth like 40 pages left, so I just killed it at home.
Not quite as good as Book 1, but very solid action flic, and still loving the setting. Bonus point for getting the Uki words right. Impressive plotting, relentless pace... fun book.
I've got one more "last book in a series" to tick off my list, and that's the last Mongoliad book by Neal Stephenson et al. like the last 2 trilogies (Merchant Princes and Bobby Dollar) Vol 2 wasn't all that great. Here's hoping it goes 3 for 3 with Vol 3.

Haven't read seveneves yet. Anathem is mind-blowingly awesome, but dense at first.
Baroque cycle is a mix of historical political/economics novel and insane adventure capers.
His early cyberpunk (Snow Crash, Diamond Age), is getting dated, but still good.
Reamde is more of a techno thriller than sci-fi.
Mongoliad I haven't made up my mind yet.

Start Stevenson with Snow Crash. If you like it, great. Keep going. If not, it's one of his shortest.
I like Anathem and the Baroque cycle the most. Seveneves is very good, but middle of the pack. Mongolia, I think is his worst work he's involved in (still pretty OK).

Snow Crash is also the biggest offender for the "plot-related gigantic infodump" that Stephenson is so fond of. If you can handle that part, you will like his other works, b/c then he tones it down a lot.

Finished MORT by Pratchett. A great first outing for the Death books. Enjoyed it throughout and had some hearty chuckles.
Now I'm finishing off my FoD re-read hopefully before FoL releases in Canada.

FoD reread was great. That book is a slooooow burn; dense and weighty and rich, punctuated only occasionally with brief bursts of action or revelation, and virtually no humor to balance things out. And even on a second read I had trouble keeping track of many of the (often similarly-named) characters, since most of them only appear in a single chapter in each quarter of the book. That said, it's still brilliant stuff, beautifully written. My only real complaint is how much of the mystery of the Tiste races is not so much revealed as it is
I'm now on Chapter Four of Fall of Light, which is good, pretty much just a straight continuation of FoD thus far.

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
