Finished The Prince of Thorns over the weekend. It was good but I'm not quite ready to jump on the hype train. I found myself forgetting who some of the characters were--luckily I had my Kindle and could easily search the names. Still very good for a debut but no Lies of Locke Lamora IMO.

Based on your comments, and Amazon's descriptions, I think I'll give Furies another try and hold off on Dresden for now.

Good. That money will come in handy for funding our hunt for tax frauding businessmen.

Finally got time this weekend to start Furies of Calderon only about a quarter of the way through, but if this is the weakest of the series as some say then it won't be hard to get through at all.

Some of the characters - the 'brothers' - are a bit hard to keep track, especially since the 'blurbs' give them interesting characteristsics that we never actually see used in the book.

It has its moments, but i still think the series is worthwhile.
Finished Tregellis' BITTER SEEDS. Totally enjoyed it! Jumped right into the sequel THE COLDEST WAR.

If you liked BITTER SEEDS enough to jump straight into the sequel...you're fucked now...prepare yourself to join me in my pre-order of NECESSARY EVIL. Just do it and save yourself the heartache.

Just started the Passage after numerous posts praising it on the forum. I've gotten perhaps 30 pages in and I'm already hooked.

I started Stirling's Against the Tide of Years (Nantucket book 2) but will probably set it aside for A Red Country.

About 60 or so pages into perdido street station and while nothing much has happened yet, it's oddly gripping and I just want to keep reading!

3/4 done with the last book in the Acacia trilogy. Just wondering what to read afterwards, Will it be the traitor queen, the air wars or the city of ruin. Or parhaps just concentrate on the forthcoming exams.

Started in on my review copy of Sean O'Brien's Vale of Stars. Nothing special so far, but it could surprise me.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Tregillis' THE COLDEST WAR. What amazes me about this series is that it is grimmer than grim, damaged people in bad situations doing desperate things they will regret horribly, yet the author keeps it compelling and through the sf elements nicely balaced with a 'reality' element. I don't think i've seen paranormal espionage handled this well before.
Looking ahead, two weeks to a dresdencrack fix with COLD DAYS....
...then a Malaz fix from ICE w BLOOD AND BONE,
then WoT wraps (sort of) w MEMORY OF LIGHT,
and THEN i'll hit Abercrombie's RED COUNTRY,
and after that Warren Ellis' GUN MACHINE.
I may not sleep again until February sometime.

Told you.
Just wait till the end, it's going to melt your fucking brain grapes...and leave you gibbering as you await the sequel....which comes out at the tail end of your list there, so that works out well.
