Finished Umberto Eco's Focault's Pendulum the other day, and I'm about to start Stephenson's Snow Crash.

At the moment I'm reading nothing, but I just finished 'The Magic of Recluce' and 'The Death of Chaos', by L.E. Modesitt, Jr. They are quite good fantasy books, I must say.

Just finished Clavel's "Gai-jin". I recommend "Shogun", but not "Gaijin".

Yeah I agree. Ultrarealistic would get boring anyway, they had a pitched battle once in a blue moon back in those days. Defensive warfare ruled the roost, till the coming of cannon.

'Bout halfway through Singularity Sky by Charles Stross and frankly I find it really bland. Except from a few cool techno ideas (big E.) neither the characters, the worldbuilding, the plot or the proze are very good. This has been one big disappointment for me, can't believe Stross is hailed as the 'next big thing' in SF. Maybe in the short story format it works, but it certainly doesn't work in the novel. I think I'll skim the rest of the book and then get my ass to the library (there's sitting a lonely copy of the book that Brood's reading on a shelf overthere).
