meanwhile, I've started Harry Turtledove's 'Into the darkness", a part of 6 or 7 book series described as "alternative universe WW2 with magic instead of science". only read the first chapter so far (and that had, like 4 or 5 POVs), but we shall see what happens...

Good choice, excellent series that's well written.

A question: Has anyone here ever read "Scar Night" by Alan Campbell?

Yeah I got it this time last year very good book, I liked it a lot reminded me slightly of China mieville without the socialist leanings. I would definitely recommend it though.

Thanks, I'm asking, because I'm currently nearly half through and still don't know what to think about it, although it's getting better concerning the writing [although it's not a vocabulary like e.g. SE uses, I've got some trouble to figure out, what's happening sometimes or to picture specific actions O.o]. But all the chains, bridges, assassins, evil and nice/brave angels and some other stuff including some inconsistencies puzzle me. Though a nice idea, I'd say.

Just finished David Anthony Durham's Acacia: The War with the Mein.

Holy crap, but Acacia is a book that doesn't live up to the hype. Poor characterization throughout killed this one for me...

Check the blog for the full review.

Cheers,

Patrick

A book on JavaScript and AJAX. Woohoo.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

swordspoint, ellen kushner.
It's ok so far. Not much is actually happening, but the writing is great so it's still interesting.

Finished Black Man by Richard Morgan.

Definitely not my cup of tea.

Started American Gods by Neil Gaiman.
I finished 4 or 5 chapters. Nothing special so far. I am not happy with the way he tells the story. It feels like as I am sitting in a mind of a mentaly disturbed guy. It would be OK from time to time but not all the time!?
Oh well, we will see.

I watched Stardust and really liked the movie. But again, my wife started to read the book and she complains about the way the book is written.

Still reading "The Shadow Rising" (book 4 in wheel of time)

I think this is my favourite yet.

Solid start at least. Good fights, Rand and Elayne the Hot Heiress of Andor are hooking up.

Well enjoy it cos it's all down hill from book 9, what's it called? I think it's "The Sledgehammer of Disappointment" subtitled "Rand and Co sit around and do nothing for 3 books".

I can't wait to find out what happens in the end...

Sorry, couple of questions about WoT series

ok, so which is it? 6 or 9 that it goes downhill?

I want to time it so I have an SE book to break up the crappy bit.

Did anybody read right to the end of the series and is it worth it once you get past the crappy bit?

Robert Jordan died before he finished the series right? Did anybody pick it up and end it?
