i know I know *bows head in shame*

I do like the general story though. The world is ridiculously developed. I like all the cities and nations and stuff, even if the interactions are abit oversimilified into red vs. blue. Plus I keep hoping for Rand to purge the taint and start wailing on some darkfriends instead of running around like a retard and fighting the dark one at the end of each book.

hehe...purging taints is a dirty job

But they're kind of like LOTR or Star wars that way. They are a standout popular item in a genre that you can't really not read and call yourself a fan.[/QUOTE]

I'm reading Mordant's Need by Stephen Donaldson.

I'll soon be reading Mordant's need in my economics class.

Just finished Charles Stross's Halting State. From his blurb:
"A near-future thriller set in the bizarre world of the software houses that develop massively-multiplayer online roleplaying games. A bank has been robbed, a start-up company's massive IPO postponed, and the company's lead programmer has gone missing. It's up to an unlikely team of investigators, sent in by the venture capitalists backing the IPO, to figure out what happened and get the money back. There's just a slight catch: the robbers were a gang of Orcs, and the money may have been smuggled over the border into another reality ...."

I rather enjoyed the book. The setting is near-future (2020ish) Edinburgh and Glasgow. Published by Ace in a hardcover in October 2007, and by Orbit in the UK in trade paperback in January 2008.
Shaken, not stirred.

Keeping with my insane scheme of "reading the first book of a series to figure out if I like the series",I have finished vol 1 of "Otherland"

Currently reading
"The Darkness that comes before"
Loving the world, although can't stop comparing Holy War witht the Crusades.... Also, having trouble catching onto the pacing....

reading those dragon books by naomi novak. the first one was pretty cool. They are steadily declining in coolness as the series goes on ;)

Rereading Bonehunters, because I realised I remember less of it than any other malazan book.

Scratch what I said about Bakker's pacing-- I got into it and finished the book yest. It is absolutely awesome, and once exams are over and I'm going on a crazy book-buying spree, "Prince of Nothing" is on the very top of the list.

meanwhile, I've started Harry Turtledove's 'Into the darkness", a part of 6 or 7 book series described as "alternative universe WW2 with magic instead of science". only read the first chapter so far (and that had, like 4 or 5 POVs), but we shall see what happens...

Also just finished his Passage at Arms... best book in that style that I have read since rimrunners..
Have the first book of the Instrumentalities of Night ready to go

Yes... Many a list this year should start with words "Dear Amazon.com.uk"
And featute words like "Crimson", "Hounds" "Return", "Toll", "and" in no particular order...
