I finished Harry August. Didn't love it as much as some, but I liked it well enough. 3 stars on the ol' Goodreads meter.

I think you'd like her other book THE SUDDEN APPEARANCE OF HOPE. It is very much something I can see you getting behind. I've not finished it yet but I'll post some thoughts when I have.

I didn't like Sudden Appearance that much. August felt more moving and the best of her books are the Matthew Swift ones.

It took me a lot longer to get into HOPE but I love how it's part the story of Hope, part introspective stream of consciousness thoughts on loneliness, love and humanity, part social commentary on the inequality of wealth. It's a rich and textured story.

I do prefer Harry August as an actual story and, because I'm listening to both on Audible, I think the narrator is better for Harry August as well. However, the reason I thought Worry in particular would like HOPE is because some parts of it are reminiscent of a Worry spiel that we often get in the DB 😉

New Uhtred book from Cornwell dropped here in the States. Will be starting it as soon as I'm done with Blood of Elves.

My bank keeps encouraging me to get its money-spending tracking app.

I keep refusing, because I KNOW most of my spending cash goes to books, gaming and alcohol. I DON'T need the actual numbers to make me feel bad

Started The Sudden Appearance of Hope. Can't say it's at all what I expected so far, but I'm enjoying it. I was confused about something in the very beginning (not really spoilers, since it occurs so early on, but spoilered just in case):
Spoiler

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I don't remember being confused by that bit. I think she didn't really pay attention to it until it until it caused the death.

Finished the second collection of Moorcock's short fiction. The bulk of the book is the Brothel in Rosenstrasse which is a weird novella, that's part hardcore erotic fantasy, part historical fiction that reminded me of of "The White Guard" by Bulgakov, which is one of my favourite books ever. So I'm not sure how I feel about that one. The rest of the short stories are pretty good, as well.

Gonna move on to Volume 3 in commute- and that one includes Behold the Man (which I already read), as well as apparently its sequel, so that'll be interesting.

At home, think I might finish "Metro 2033" this weekend (less than 100 pages to go) and move on to the sequel. The setting is pretty insane, but the plot reads very much like a travelogue, so I can see why 4A Games thought it'd make a good game. I'm already curious to see how closely to the book they stuck.

Finished Dancer's Lament. Eight knives in the shadows out of ten.
Now on to Deadhouse Landing.

Really enjoying Esslemont's writing style. He's getting better with his plotting and characterisation too.
