So I've recently gotten my hands on some tech that means I'm thinking of craft projects for, er, things and stuff.

I was considering maybe dipping into some warhammer models but I've never done a mninature. Tanks are cool so maybe one of those.

I have very little idea about where to begin looking and I don't want to spend a huge amount. What's a good point to start with?

Unless you're into the game there are probably better (and far cheaper) tanks et al to build and paint than the WH stuff - I assume you mean 30/40K? Can't be sure with that accent.

Or the larger Forge World stuff - which is ghastly expensive.

So what kind of tech are you talking anyway? That you have now?
If it's like a 3D printer there's all sorts of schematics online you can get to print damn near anything up to whatever size the printer will do. All you need is the resin.
