@PG

So Tim Gurner apparently had a change of heart (yeah right ):

Millionaire apologises over claim that Aussie tradies are ‘paid too much’
A millionaire property developer who told Aussie tradies they are being “paid too much” and that workers need to “experience pain” has issued an apology.

You know, with that slicked back hair he looks like a slimmer version of Don Trump Jnr. Same supremely punchable face.

That guy is literally the "millennials are poor because of avocado toast" guy btw.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

From the article:

Quote

“When I was trying to buy my first home, I wasn’t buying smashed avocado for $19 and four coffees at $4 each,” he said.

“This generation is watching the Kardashians and thinking that’s normal [....]

Mr Gurner [... said] he’s “tried everything” in his own life to boost productivity and wellness including IV drips, infra-red saunas and psychedelic mushrooms.

“From micro-dosing mushrooms to infra-red saunas, to steam, to Oura, lymphatic drainage. Everything. I want to try everything and see what works for me,’’

But no $4 coffee... because $2 injections to the brain increase productivity more efficiently. (Especially if you're injecting psychedelic mushrooms....) Though the concept of a coffee IV drip is intriguing.... (Not really)

Quote

Large groups of young people broke into numerous stores across Philadelphia Tuesday night, stealing merchandise and vandalizing property[...]

[...] at least two guns were recovered. The unrest stretched across the city, including Center City, the Northeast, and West Philadelphia[...] through the night.

[...] shortly after protesters had dispersed from a peaceful gathering [...] where marchers called for justice for Eddie Irizarry, who was shot and killed by a Philadelphia Police officer [...] Earlier Tuesday, a judge dismissed all charges against the officer who killed him, setting off a wave of outrage

[Acting Police Commissioner ...] was quick to make clear that Irizarry's supporters had nothing to do with Tuesday night's unrest. He called the young people who looted "criminal opportunists" who were not affiliated with the earlier gathering.

Philadelphia looting hits stores in Center City, West Philly (inquirer.com)

Perhaps they weren't at the peaceful protest, but that doesn't mean they weren't responding to the verdict. Or motivated, in part, by genuine outrage.

Quote

The business corridors impacted Tuesday night were similar to those targeted [...] in the wake of the police murder of George Floyd [...] when Philadelphia police shot and killed Walter Wallace Jr. [...] Protests again broke out across West Philadelphia, and some businesses were vandalized.

No injuries have been reported

I'm happy that recent flash mobs have focused on robbing stores, not robbing and violently assaulting random people. It used to be different.

From 2011:

Quote

The two young women were sitting at a window table inside the Max Brenner [Chocolate Bar and Restaurant ...] sharing chocolate fondue after some shopping.

The streets were vibrant. The weather was nice.

"The city had a good vibe," [...]

Heading their way was a pack of teens roving through Center City after leaving a North Philadelphia music festival.

They were part of about 100 or more young people who had left Saturday night's event, committing a series of violent assaults and robberies [...]

Before she could tell Cecilia to put her cell phone away, another teen reached through the window and snatched it.

Maria ran out after him.

She was on the sidewalk, starting to scream "thief," she said, when someone from behind punched her in the jaw. [...]

The teens were laughing, she said. [...]

Police are still investigating two other attacks by teens leaving the festival, including one that left a woman hospitalized with a broken leg.

Teens in a mob assault and rob Center City patrons (inquirer.com)

Not hard to imagine why impoverished teenagers who feel they have no worthwhile job opportunities outside of gangs would see people eating fondue in a fancy chocolate restaurant and feel resentment. Though IDK if that was a free music festival, or if they paid part of what little money they had to go to it (and needed to steal to support their music festival habit?)....

From 2017:

Quote

Hundreds of teens turned out for what's been described as a flash mob incident [...] Several people "[random bystanders] were [...] beaten, maced and claim to have even been tased [by the teens, not the police]," [...]

The earliest such "Philly mob" incident we found took place [...] in May 2009, when thousands of teenagers gathered after coordinating plans through social media. "A few dozen outliers in this adolescent crowd turned violent, ransacking a convenience store, pulling drivers from their cars and, in the most serious incident of the evening, assaulting a cyclist and leaving him unconscious and bleeding in the street,"

The new social contract: stick to robbing stores, not people (well, except the people who own the stores), and don't injure anyone, and most wealthy liberals won't care all that much. (Best to stick to stores owned by the wealthy, not small shops owned by other relatively disadvantaged people.)

Many of the people involved in these robberies should be receiving reparations anyway, not to mention UBI. So if they choose to seize it for themselves...

People shouldn't be going to indoor stores anyway (except for genuine emergencies) with the pandemic still going on and other contagious diseases circulating. So if they close down, or become automated fortresses that deposit goods on the sidewalk---good.
