does the fact that elder gods were taking him down mean there were no ascendants at that time? if so what would have happened to the souls if there was no hood? would they be bound to him like karsa's are?

I think so... The ascendants are fairly "new" compared to the Elder Gods... and if they were around, then they probably weren't too powerful. What I don't get is Rake must have been around - why didn't he go and Dragnipur Kallor before he can cause anymore trouble?
[EDIT]Hang on forget that, cos Dragnipur hadn't been invented at that point. Duh.

rake couldnt have had dragnipur because draconus was still around and it was kallor who cursed him to be done in by his own creation.

Personally I always got the impression that Kallor's empire preceeded alot of things and it existed even when the Elder Gods were young, though I never really fully understood the First Empire so it seems I may be wrong.
Concerning the House of Death, with Hood being a Jaghut it nevers says that he was the only King of Death, couldn't someone of held the position before him?
Also I just had a thought, this may be better in the crazy theorys thread but, if the Crippled God was bought down on the continent of Jakuruku couldn't the huge pit the Claw and Red Blade find the place where the CG fell, so the Otataral Dragon is... But thats just a theory and I'm sure there is soooooo much information to disprove it.

CG was brought down on the sister continent, the ravaging of jakuruku was due to kallor...but would have been good

It's called the First Human Empire for a reason;)
MMPB MoI pg 32
"The First Human Empire had risen, on a continent half a world away from where K'Rul walked...But it had not been alone for long. Here on Jacuruku in the shadow of the long dead..."(im sure u can read the rest)

It's possible... I think Hood took up the position cos he wanted somewhere to escape the Imass, like Gothos in the Deadhouse.

Actually, if Raest knew him, then Hood was already the Lord of Death long before the imass became a real threat to the Jhagut

I thought it was spoken straight out that Kallor used kechaine kemalle machines to incinerate his empire not too much of a stretch than to imagine he used similiar devices to conquer and than rule his empire.
And perhaps the reason the mages needed the help of a god was theirs no point in defeating kallor if he than throws the switch and incenerates the whole continent. Like a nuclear deterent

so i guess that kallor destroyed his empire just after the first empire had risen. Does make you wonder what he has actually done.
Also the curse was that whatever he does will come undone or whatever, do you rekon that that goes for the House of chains as well?

It is not his enterprise though
CG is just using him. Irony, no? I wonder if he knows he has a relation with the guy...

yeah good point. it was because of Kallor that the CG is in his situation. I'm not sure if he knows this but when he finds out he's gonna want to see Kallor as he is the only one left alive from that time

Weeeel, it's also vice versa, since Kallor wouldn't have been cursed if it wasn't for the CG's fall on the Malazan world
I mean, if they hadn't tried to bring a god down just to get rid of the guy, the Elder gods might have never come to kick his arogant butt...

i guess but something would probably been done once the elder gods discovered what he had done (i.e. destroying his empire). Killing millions of people requires punishment

but he only killed millions of people cause the gods were coming to take them from him

Do you think he was going to destroy them anyway? Like on a bored whim?

He prepared for the elder gods. He cared nothing for the chaining of the CG somehow he diddent know that would happen or knew it would not work. But he very well knew the Elder Gods were comming after him so he prepared their arrival. He made sure that the elder gods would not take anything from him andso destroy his pride, dignity and name so he destroyed everything what he had and gave it freely to the elder gods(dust bone etc)

Yes, he wants power and control. I don't think he would have destroyed his empire, if the Elder gods wern't coming.
