I kind of want to try them sometime after seeing them in action.

I'm really liking new muaat so far though they do seem to be more of a sprint to 10vp race rather than last the distance to 14.

They’re interesting, in some ways not as terrifying as they’re made out to be before you actually see them in action.

For example, they have absolutely no special unit upgrades (I don’t count the space dock). So yes, you can push out a lot of forces relatively quickly and inexpensively, but you don’t get any inherent advantage in combat. It’s why I haven’t been anywhere near as aggressive as perhaps people thought I might be.

I do really like not having to worry very much about resource costs (I really struggled to actually exhaust my planets last round) and the Riftmeld ability allowing you to upgrade anything without having the prerequisites is incredible - I don’t have to agonise about following particular tech paths.

Space dock gravity rifts are also excellent, movement is another concern which is mostly off the table, though I do find it odd I still have to roll for regular gravity rifts.

Their main issue seems to be command token economy, but even that’s okay at the moment. The Hero seems really quite underwhelming - if it worked on a roll of 1-5 rather than 1-3 it might be better. Otherwise it takes a lot of setup, is both very situational and involves a lot of random luck at the same time.

I’m not sure they have many late game strengths - I suppose pumping out another fleet straight after a destructive battle, but again it’s not like you can then use it straight away in normal circumstances. I actually suspect they might be very good as a defensive race - pick up lots of points early, then turtle and just keep reproducing your fleets with amalgamation.

Anyways, I don't mind who I target - with 5 Dreads on the field and another waiting in the wings I'm not even sure what I'd 'purchase'! However, somehow I very much doubt that IH will have trouble exchanging his commodities.

I dunno, Tatts made that big speech and everything. Maybe Tapper and Morgoth will swap each other's commodities instead of feeding IH even more. Or not, I dunno, do whatever you think is best.
