There's a million previews from the network test that are hitting YT today.
I'm just gonna post Iron Pineapple's breakdown of the game's systems ( I mostly just listened w/o watching the vid to avoid monster design spoilers).
Sounds like the game world design is pretty dense, without any "empty areas".

One large Souls level with smaller Souls levels to discover inside.
The Souls team executes like no other when it comes to design of bosses and the nightmare fueled grotesqueries they come up with.
I will say with the hype train hitting peak momentum I'm starting to get Cyberpunk 2077 vibes. I hope this doesn't shit the bed.

To be fair, they're being A LOT more open to the public than CDPRED was
That inspires hope.

You can definitely catch the GRRM influence in the narration.

What, in that it goes strong, peters off and remains unfinished forever?

Wowzers. Reviews are in and they are high. Other then Mentalist, who is playing day 1 of release? I think I'm going to be making another trip to Best Buy and picking it up on Friday.

I'm definitely interested but Horizon and Destiny take priority.

I've got it pre-loading on Steam. I'm utter shite at Soulsborne games but I still love them, and I had a Steam gift card burning a hole in my wallet, so . . .

I've played all the previous games, and the hype is getting to me.
I'll be getting it as soon as I can - not watching any gameplay spoilers, I've just seen a trailer or 2.
What seems odd is the sheer volume of hype from players who haven't touched a Souls game before, or have, but didn't like them. What the heck are they expecting? This is open world only in terms of it being less physically linear - these people asking for 'mission journals' and such are going to be disappointed.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I've put a lot of time into the first Darksouls, but none of the others, but I decided to buy this one on steam today after watching a single video after purposefully ignoring everything about the game. It's been a while since I've played an AAA game on release, but I'm feeling excited to look at some cool monsters at the very least.
edit: Put in 5 hours tonight, I had a lot of fun. Some issues with frame rate on PC, and it took me a while before I learned how to change the key prompts to keyboard instead of controller. Didn't realize how much of a Souls reskin it would be - seems weird to set it in a different universe when it's basically the same game with different words referring to pretty much the same thing, but hey, more of the same is fine by me.

Didn't notice any frame rate issues as I was too busy trying to sort out the awful screen tearing. Cured it by switching to borderless window in the end but it's hardly ideal and reduces quality a bit, I feel. That's used up most of my two hour refund window so not entirely sure what I'm going to do at the moment.

I set my ps4 to autodownload overnight.
So of course it didn't.
Hopefully it's doing so now while I'm at work.

Screw it. I bought it. Downloaded it overnight, but since I’m an adult I probably won’t get to play it until later this weekend.

Same. If there's time tonight, the kids go to bed at a reasonable time, and I'm not falling asleep I will have a look.
I'm aware I'm signing up for some late nights ahead, as I get caught between needing sleep and having 'just one more go' at those bosses.

Managed to get rid of the screen tearing in full-screen mode. I'd actually already tried the solution that worked last night, and it hadn't worked. This time it did. Not entirely sure what I did differently. Anyway, all working and running smoothly now.

It looks so good.
I've gone with the bandit to start. Nice easy intro; and suddenly a literal open area to explore.

Quiet, you're making me jealous. I picked up the disc on the way home and just started downloading. I'm hoping to start playing later tonight but that might be too ambitious. I'll definitely join the ranks of the shattered cult tomorrow. Weekend baybeeeeee!
Aw darnit too, I was really vibing with HFW, but I sorta knew I was going to pause my playthrough of that to start Elden Ring.
