Cast announced and looking pretty good, with some GoT vets (Charles Dance as Burgess and Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer.
No news on Death yet, though.

Christie is a cool choice for Lucifer, but I'd be lying if I didn't KIND of want Tom Ellis since he's so established as the character now and even crossed over into the CRISIS DC TV content once...but I also feel like Christie is closer to what Gaiman intended with the Bowie-look from the comics.

I would have hated Tom Ellis in that role. His Lucifer has nothing in common with the Lucifer in Sandman neither in looks nor personality.

Agreed. Tom Ellis is an excellent actor and could easily do the Lucifer from the comics, but he'd be at such immense variance with the character from the TV show that people would get seriously confused.
Better to have a clean break and say no, this is a different take on the character (and, probably not coincidentally, a take they can spin out later on into her own show which is much closer to the spin-off comics).
Gaiman I think had a vision of the tone he wanted for the show and "the CWverse" is 100% not it, as fun as that can be. I assume that means if they do the Batman and Superman cameos from the comics, they won't be the CW or other established actors either.

Meh, neither did Peter Stormare's version, but I think he did a great job in the role in the CONSTANTINE film.

Sorry, which people exactly? People who are die hard SANDAMN fans? Or regular people who know jack about SANDMAN comics? Or people who watch the LUCIFER TV show? How many of them are there, and how concerned should we be about briefly confusing them? Really concerned?
This notion that the people who make TV shows give any thought to how the TV version is represented compared to the original source material(s) is well off the mark. That's not how the business works.
See examples: STAR TREK DISCOVERY, and PICARD.

Why? Any particular reason, or is it a similar reason to the above statement, in which case I say you don't need to pander to the small viewing audience of LUCIFER or the comic fans. If they had wanted to make Tom Ellis the Lucifer from Sandman, they could and it would still fit continuity because of the time difference between the properties.

Gaiman fully endorsed LUCIFER, starred in a cameo role as God in S3, and talked openly about fighting for it not to be cancelled by concern groups. LUCIFER is part of the CWverse. And I never implied that it (SANDMAN) should be a CWverse show, just that they could cross Lucifer over...
Also, you're aware that the show isn't Neil Gaiman's, right? It's Alan Heinberg's show...a guy who wrote and produced for Sex & The City, Party of Five, Grey's Anatomy, Grosse Point, and the CW pilot for Wonder Woman...so you know, that's a little bit of context on his pedigree (which is kind of CWverse). Gaiman and Goyer are just Exec Producers, but Heinberg is the show creator and runner.
And I mean, there has never been an exact version of the Lucifer character as he was written in the comics in other media because he was written as 70's/80's David Bowie. As such you can't really make that happen anyways. Adaptation is fine.
Lastly, not bringing Ellis the chance to play the character from a different angle (SANDMAN takes place LONG before LUCIFER) earlier in his life/unlife whatever....is a bit weird when that can work REALLY well. We allow other actors to reprise their roles from earlier in their career and change them up from what we know/knew.
See: William Zabka's Johnny Lawrence in COBRA KAI.
Like I said, Christie is a solid choice. I like her as an actor. I just think this would have been a cool chance to connect things and let Ellis stretch his chops in a character he's been playing a certain way for a while.

Am pretty happy with everything they've announced so far.
As a related aside, the audiodrama adaptation was just confirmed for a S2 and 3.

Holy hell this looks incredible.
I say that as a long time SANDMAN super fan who owns all the ABSOLUTE volumes 1-5...this really does seem to nail the vibe without being campy looking.
Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine is kind of inspired casting.
Man....I'm gonna do a reread of all 75 issues before Aug 5th aren't I? LOL

If you've never read them, you should. They are seminal works of literature and art. Probably the best completed series I've ever read in comics.

The more comics I read, the more Sandman settles in as one of the best, but I still like Planetary significantly more. Gaiman goes twee a bit too often and the Dr Dee thing makes little sense, even with all the context.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Is the audio book good enough or for this would you recommend the comics?

Just watched ep 1.
Cool.
I've only read bits and pieces of the comics but I'm reading everywhere that the show is very true to them.
Will keep watching.
