Luckily it become more important to ensure the Sol wouldn't win, so Muaat weren't able to supernova my system. Still think it's coming soon though.

I was at 7 points, was Speaker, chose Leadership, had enough structures for the 7 structures 2VP PO but no scoreable SOs, but like 15 action cards in my hand. So I used all my stall action cards and all my stall actions to stall everyone out of the game. Muaat eventually had to play Imperial and I drew the Spark a Rebellion SO. Luckily, my Flagship was sitting in the nebula between Muaat and I with 2 infantry and a fighter, and right next to that space was Muatt's Ba'kal with 1 mech sitting on it. I had Fire Team and Morale Boost to my name. First round we both scored a hit. Fire Team didn't score me an extra hit. So we were down to a damaged mech and 1 infantry, and I managed to get a hit while the mech missed, so I was able to gain control of the planet and score Spark a Rebellion, then stall everyone else out before I used Leadership then passed and as the first scorer, I eked out a win!! :)

My very first time winning at TI4, I'm quite proud of it considering I only had control of like 5 planets most of the game.

He ended up supernova'ing one of the Sardak N'orr's 2-planet systems as they were in 1st place so he wanted to prevent them from winning if we got to Status Phase and I couldn't score the win.

So my impressions:

  • Sardakk seem like a much more interesting race in PoK than they did pre-PoK. Definitely one I'd recommend folks try out one day if they were ever interested.
  • Vuil'Raith Cabal seemed pretty underwhelming but the consensus at the table seemed to be that the player didn't really play them to the best of his abilities. He captured all kinds of ships, but never used them to grow his fleet, so like, basically didn't use half of his race's main ability.
  • Xxcha seem slightly more interesting with expansion material, but a lot of their gameplay revolves around the agenda phase so likely that would be slightly different on our forum games.
  • Sol are, as usual, huge pains in the ass. They took Mecatol and held it most of the game, but Sardakk came in and wiped them out when it was apparent that not doing so would ensure a Sol win.
  • Yssaril are loads of fun. The Yssaril Hero is ridiculously fun. I fully understand why Morgoth won with them (twice?). I felt like I was basically coasting the whole game, certainly was never an aggressor, but was aggressed upon by the Muaat, though I made it very difficult for him to take what he took thanks to the many action cards. I got pretty lucky with action card draws too, I got a lot of really great cards.
  • Muaat seem much more viable now - they have tons of additional abilities to help deal with what used to be an abysmal start combined with very low resources. Definitely a race I'd like to try again one day.
  • Codex v2 is going to be released soon, and there are going to be some new relics. Some of the new relics were revealed on an episode of Space Cats Peace Turtles (the best known TI4 podcast) and some folks have already added them to the game in TTS. One of the new relics is an agent that allows you to pay 3 resources to build a PDS or Space Dock on a planet you control. As Yssaril, your agent can copy any agent ability, including this one, so I used it quite a bit as there were two structure POs in our game. I look forward to the official release, and will perhaps discuss adding the new relics that are already known to the deck in our next game.
  • There was considerably less exploring in this game as there weren't many races that had or took the tech to allow you to explore more than once, or even to explore frontier tokens. I took Dark Energy Tap and think it was a wasted Tech for Yssaril. I think that we need to keep that in mind when looking at this game, there was a LOT of exploring that wouldn't usually happen in a game.
  • Not all 4 legendary planets are always in the game. That had never really occurred to me before, but in this game we had Mallice, and that was it. We also only had 1 Alpha Wormhole and 1 Beta Wormhole. Mallice was discovered when someone used Ghost Ship to place a Destroyer in the wormhole nexus, thus flipping Mallice to the side with the Alpha and Beta Wormholes. The Gamma wormhole was discovered during the last round.
  • I really look forward to seeing how the other original races are now that we're playing with PoK. Very very interesting new mechanics to those I've seen so far!

The yssaril are great, I've been shocked that they aren't played more (I think they have a 100 percent win rate in the games they have been in on the forum)

New codex sounds exciting

Sardakk are near the top of my races I want to try. Much more interesting than the base game.

Congrats on the win Blend, sounds like it was well earned! And thanks for the impressions post too, always good to have more thoughts on this stuff.

right, sorry guys. Again. This month has been crazy, and in addition to taking over a new place during lockdown, we're in the midst of selling our own place too. All the while I am responsible for overseeing the implementation of a major overhaul of our entire accounting system at work. Sufficient to say, it's been a little time consuming. At least we'll have the sale done by friday it looks like. Now it all comes down to price. It'll feel weird having all that money in my account, for about a day until I pay it into the loan for the new place. Still, for a little while I'll be sort of a millionaire. Kinda.

I've found time to get engaged too though, so there's that :D

Now I'm back at my home office, with access to the internet and my laptop again.

At any rate, I'll fix up a move.

alright, the way I see it. If I attack IH I might prevent him from winning, which leaves twelve the most likely winner. If IH responds by taking twelve's homeworld, then tatts will probably win. So, I am in a sort of position to chose the winner if I am not mistaken. Now, I wouldn't mind seeing someone other than IH win, though to be fair, I at least have attacked him (and took out his largest fleet just one round ago I might add). At the same time, I certainly do not want twelve to win. I could like tatts to win, but I'm not sure I like the idea of using my actions on kingmaking to that degree, trying to chose which of the potential winners I like the most. It feels unpleasant in a way. Better then, I think, to respond to the direct actions of players against me. I could theoretically have been in this running too, if not for twelve, and so I prefer to deal with him.

Hey Morgoth, have you thought about the possibility of taking Tatts' homeworld instead? If you're still in the mindset of attacking those who attacked you, remember that Tatts tried to steal your VP with that cunning strategy of his ;)

wait, I might have made an error with In the silence of space. I guess I need to pick Lodor not MR, and if so I cannot use ships from Vefut? What if they travel through Lodor on their way?

The attack will happen either way, but I'll use more ships from Lodor I guess.
