Thought this was another double month so after powering through RotC, I leapt into Reaper’s Gale. About 10% in and was looking for the thread. Oops! See you all in 2 weeks.

Finished today.

Too busy a book, it frustrated me as much this time as it did the first.

Ending feels rushed, the boat and mages a pointless plot used to draw Tay into the story.
Wickans a wasted opportunity
Gheled storyline could easily be cut.

Blegh all over. I feel this way about a lot of Cams biggers books

Also starting RG now as my reading time will likely decrease

I just have book amnesia when it comes to Cam's books. I have Stonewielder on my bookshelf. I can tell you nothing about it. And yet I can quote books I read when I was 12.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Yeah, a vague vague about at the major plot line but that's about it

I'm at book 3. Just stopped to read Peace Talks.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I felt this book is an improvement on Esslemont's previous published book NoK which bored me to death.

As much as I hate Mallick I couldn't help but be impressed at the way he became Emperor, although I found it weird he was gunning for such a position, considering he's very much a behind-the-scenes guy.

The CG are portaryed positively and I suspect this due to their military nature (seriously, why didn't Erikson and Esslemont join a branch of the Canadian military considering their fondness for the military?).

I liked Ghelel's story, and particularly enjoyed her self reflection on the consequences of the 7C rebellion. What truly annoyed me is that her story ends on a cliffhanger only to never be revisited again. Why bother?

Despite not being part of the main series, this is the last time we read about the Malazan Empire proper, and the status of the Malazan Empire itself is unknown.
