Reviews are out for The Last of Us - Part II.

https://opencritic.c...t-of-us-part-ii

It's sitting at an average rating of 95 so far, matching the first games critical reception.

How many of you are planning on getting it next week? I'm gonna buy it but I am a bit weary of how grim this game is going to get. I still remember that reveal with the hangings and a person getting their arm smashed with a hammer.

I'm surprised that no one responded to this thread. I thought most of the forums Playstation owners played through TLOU.

I did love the first one and i'm 100% getting this one. But depending on how busy work and stuff is, I probably wont get to play it till winter. So i'm trying not to get too excited.

Plus i still need to squeeze in a playthrough of 1.

As if I've got time to actually play it. I have a toddler and a very demanding job. Will no doubt end up with the remastered version in a few years time on the PS5.

Same. By the time both the console and the game come down in price I may be able to actually play them!

I can't wait. Also I am terrified of the internet spoiling the best parts of the game. I remember hearing more than a few spoilers for the first game before I ever got my hands on it.

I want it, but from what I understand, the visceral violence and general brutality and bleakness of the game and its world will make it hard to play with Laura in the livingroom. And so I'll prioritize other games until she goes on a trip or something.

Started my playthrough of 1, just finished up the prologue. As soon as somebody stops cutting onions in here I'll start again.

I don't know what the big deal is. It was a good story, but the way the game was divided into areas in which you basically did the same thing over and over didnt blow me away.

I'm not jumping at the sequel, anyway.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

It was a very well made game. The story wasn't ground breaking, nor was the gameplay but it was a great combination of Naughty Dogs strengths. Excellent mocap and set pieces that push the boundaries of cinematic gameplay.

I don't disagree, it was very well made. I suppose I've just not been keeping up with the hype, only just seen a trailer for it.

My hype and trepidation was set with that original cinematic trailer, I believe it was the reveal, where you see a woman attempted hung and another woman getting her upper arm bashed to pieces with a hammer. I expect the game to be brutal and beautiful and that I'll kill a thousand people in some crazy revenge story because somebody's hurt one person Ellie cares about.

The Last of Us Part II won GoY at the Game Awards. Also took best narrative, performance (voice actor for Abby) and game direction.

The game has deserved criticism, I think some of it is unwarranted. But I agree with some of it to. That being said, people should play LoU2 because there are moments like no other I've experienced in a video game. Naughty Dog swung for the fences and in being ambitious and going for it there is much about the game that makes it stand out from any I've played. It is relentless and dark and grim, but should be experienced.

The fact that it won a prize for best narrative and direction is laughable.

The telling and structure of the games story is so heavy handed and dumb, that I hate the story more with each heaping of praise it receives.

Great combat and gameplay but terrible story.

The Last of Us 2 is currently reduced from £35 to about £8 on the PlayStation store so yup I got that. Dunno when I'll play it but it's there when I do get round to it!

So I actually did start playing this and I have two initial thoughts: this began like a soap opera ("you kissed her!" And "you got into a fight with that guy!")
Also, I hate Abby, so you can probably work out what specific but I just reached...

Currently enjoying the game, utterly hating Abby and the direction the story has taken. Currently on a horse in Seattle.

So I've been playing as Abby for a while now and I'm sort of beginning to empathise with her a bit (also I really hate those whistling Seraphites!)

But still. I hate Abby and I hope she dies at the end.

Abby is the hero we need but not the one we deserve.
