Is the site safety certificate or something expired?

On coming to the main page I received a message about this site is not safe blah blah safety certificate blah blah and I had to "proceed to malazanempire.com", then I had a similar message when I clicked on the forum link and had to do the same thing.

EDIT: same thing happened when I went to post this message.

Yep, the site's SSL certificate expired today (Fri, 27 Aug 2021 23:02:46 UTC), which is just over 5 hours ago at the time of this post. It's also exactly 90 days since the cert was issued (May 29 2021). This makes me think our automated cert renewal script is broken.

If it were working, it would renew every 90 days.

Silencer or Xae will need to investigate and get a new certificate issued.

Yup, the forum is still having issues sending emails to gmail and yahoo addresses. The issue has been raised to the higher authorities. There is no current ETA for resolving it.

OK, thanks for letting us know. I wonder what the common denominator is with just gmail and yahoo?

The issue *should* now be resolved, please let us know if it's still ongoing. Credit to Xae for fixing, of course. :)

So I've been getting a slow connection just to this site or 504 Gateway timeout errors off and on for the last few days now. Anyone else?

Did you try to substitute a goat? We told you that shrinkflation excuse won't work with the Old Ones.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I never knew 504 Bad Gateway meant that type of gateway!
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

To be totally honest, the outlook is not good. Silencer is the one with all the hosting arrangements, domain registration, and whatnot, and Silencer hasn't logged into the forum since sometime last year. We have had issues with the domain being blocked by google servers for a long time, preventing registrations and the like, and haven't been able to fix those either. You may have to make your peace with this place coming to an end entirely in the not-so-distant future.

We have the technology to solve these issues and move forward to something new. We just need the will.

I'm sure people have ways to contact Silencer. From there, we can figure out domain registration, hosting, modernizing the forum software if needed..

At the very least, we need to avoid having Silencer as the bus factor for the entire site. I am happy to step in here and help out as much or as little as would be useful.
