I find it interesting that it's often discussed as maybe some more deaths vs social distancing and economic collapse. However if NY by example had 200k cases and 20 thousand deaths with social distancing what would the deaths have been without it and surely that would be bad for the economy too?
I mean, when the ghouls on TV talk about "the economy," what they really mean is the stock market and their portfolios. We do not have to die for the Dow, and we should not. If China, Vietnam, South Korea, Cuba, and others can manage full lockdown measures to prevent transmission, surely we can do the same? We shouldn't be sacrificing human lives for "the economy."

I'd say I'm drinking less on the overall weekly count for sure, but possibly a beer or two in the evening is more common now because I'm at home, it's nice weather. If I was across the water I'd be working 12 your days, home, food and bed for 4 days of the week, so little or no drinking (bar a midweek match to watch) but usually one big night most weekends, or in to watch the footy in the pub at least (usually a 5/6 pint event minimum)
Outside of drinking I was feeling shit for a few days there, but I'm fairly sure that's a heady combination of my shoulder disrupting sleep and the onset of hay fever season. But then today I had a few little coughs to myself and instantly assumed that I'm a gonner.
It's cleared again, 99% sure it was a food related incident but man I dislike this constant background worry I've developed about this.
It's a healthy fear, I get that, it means I'll keep to protocols and watch myself when doing the shopping etc, but it's just this background niggle in my head, and every time Nuala has a sugar spike or dip that's outside of the norm or a bit wayward (shes very good at managing her diabetes) I start to worry if she has caught it, working in the health center.
Blegh, first world problems, we're getting it fairly smooth in NI compared to the mainland, and at least being on the farm there's no shortage of outdoors work and wandering to do
I'm drinking a bit more, but only because I'm drinking more often. I was off work for about a month, and even now only work partial days 2-3 days a week. So there's more days that I'm counting as part of the weekend I guess. Not getting hammered or anything, but having some Bailey's in my coffee, maybe having a couple drinks in the evening.
I'm definitely smoking way more weed, though. Like, a lot of fucking weed.

But what if it gives me HIV? I don't let people stick phallic objects in my body!
It's too late, when the illuminati is ready they plan to switch the polarity of the 5g towers. This will prevent them from causing more covid but will begin to turn people gay. Resistance is futile.
That sounds awesome, honestly. Let's all just be gay.

Ok, I'm home and caught up. I agree that there is significant risk out there, but I feel like poverty is a greater risk, as I've lived through it and stand to lose my own home in this mess. The. US is simply not organized to deal with a crisis like this. So yes, it may sound selfish, but the collapse of our economy is more frightening to me than this virus.
This is why we need socialism.
I agree, and have been home bound, so totally supporting the doctors and scientists, but maybe there is some way we can save the folks that stand to lose everything.
Yes. Guaranteed housing, food, and health care.

I don't understand, we are running out of places to store oil. The price is now negative dollars. Can't we halt production?
They already are. Problem is that on top of the covid-19 pandemic there was a resulting stand-off between Russia and Saudi Arabia, which led to the Saudis flooding the market with cheap oil. This led to the already historically low demand being redirected and many cancelled orders for predominantly US companies. So they are left with lots of unsellable barrels which were supposed to have been shipped internationally. A large number of rigs have already stopped producing altogether. However - and apologies for my very limited understanding of the process oil drilling - as far as I can gather you cannot just turn off an active rig like a water tap. It will keep flowing for some time, even when you take the pressure off, and you cannot just let that oil flow free. You still need to collect it and store it. So halting rpoduction from one day to the next isnt really feasible.
Correct. It's much more like stopping a freight train than a tap. You can't just turn it off fast because it's still under pressure and will have nowhere to go, leading to potentially very dangerous situations. I mean, oil drilling in general is can be pretty dangerous.

That man was the victim of a political assassination.
I'm sure the deep state clintons had him killed to prevent the rest of us from getting haircuts so they can keep using our fast casual restaurants to each children, or whatever those Q people believe now.
Something about 5G and the New World Order.

I'm almost fully trained to use my arms to scratch any face itch I have. I hate it! My digits are restless.
Get on my level — I scratch my itches by tensing muscles in my face!
Oh man, getting inside the full biosafety suit, and than your nose starts to itch. Uncanny how that happens.
They should have little scratchy pads like astronaut helmets.

Sometimes I have to avoid watching the news. People are selfish pricks.
I'm trying to maintain a delicate balance between keeping informed and keeping sane. I was watching the numbers like a hawk before the lockdown had me sheltering in place, but I realized once I was stuck at home that it wasn't good for me, since there really wasn't anything further I could do to prevent getting it than I was already doing.

Trump last month: "What do you have to lose?".
This pos is a carnival barking, snake oil selling, charlatan.
Anyone with half a brain could and did tell him this weeks ago. It was a shot in the dark and original study was deeply flawed. Dr fauchi said as much several times until trump all hit told him to stop.
I can't help but wonder. I'd say Dr fauchi is a man who has avoided saying some things to avoid being fired and he obviously thinks he is doing more good by keeping his potion but what if he grabbed the microphone at the briefing and spoke truth to power? What if others followed suit.
History won't be kind to trump, I also hope it's not kind to his enablers.
Trump's pockets dipped into one of the main pharmaceutical companies manufacturing the drug...that's the ONLY reason he was ever pushing it so hard. This fucking clown is ALWAYS tied to thing in a monetary way.
I hear that Tom Hanks wife was administered it and is having some adverse shit happening while she was taking it...
He's an amoral, slimy grifter. He always has been one. He's not going to stop grifting just because people made him president.
