Positive Corona news in Denmark. The rate of new cases is flattening slowly and the prime minister believes we could start slowly opening the country back up as early as mid April.

We'll see. Sounds too good to be true.

I'm already wondering what we'll be doing at the library. Larger gatherings will likely still be banned. We could just keep most of the library closed off but permit the reservation, check-out and check-in of the books.

Then there's the question of handling the books. I guess we'll need gloves for everyone.

Here's hoping that accurate. It's great to see China begin to open up slowly too. The more countries that can recover from this in as short a time as possible with a nicely flattened curve, the better.

That's a valid fear, but my hope is that the powers that be in China are not stupid enough to do it if they aren't ready. Their numbers are dwindling for infections (I think only like 30 today?) and about 4 deaths.

My worry is that China, having been caught out trying to cover up will be desperate to bring good news and saying "hey Wuhan is out of lockdown" is excellent news but I can't help but be suspicious of their government...

If china isnt lying through their teeth about their numbers Ill be shocked. Just impossible to understand how after having cases in beijing etc that it didnt spread more.

In regards to some of the above, I would say Trump being in charge now has a signfiicant increase in the number of deaths the USA will experience. Similairly the fact thar South Africa is now led by Ramaphosa and not Zuma is huge. The difference that means cant be measured but it will be light and day. Id like to say hopefully this will mean people will think twice about who they elect to be their president but I doubt it.

Better to negotiate with publishers for an increase in digital licences.

Do I misunderstand how factories work? You can’t just switch from making cars or vacuum cleaners to making ventilators?

I'm not an engineer but I'd assume that heavily depends upon what kind of part of a machine you're making or assembling. Assembly lines can be highly specialized and the function of the factory worker very specific.

There's surely more to building a ventilation machine than just inserting code into a 3D printer and screwing stuff together. The individual components are probably also usually made all across the globe.

Depending on the size of the plant you could have giant machines that cost $XXX,XXX to even a few million that are very specialized as doing one thing over and over again and can't exactly be re tooled. having previously worked for an automotive part manufacturer you wouldnt believe the variety and country of origin of all of these component manufacturers as well as material processing vendors. All of this just to create automotive parts, let alone a full car.

Purhase orders would sometime specify price per quantity in terms of 6 or more significant digits because of the quantities involved. Large scale manufacturing doesn't just turn on a dime.

While I'm aware that it's really nowhere near as bad as Italy, Spain, Iran, China or even the US, the death toll in Denmark has now gone above 100. It's just a few every day, but it adds up.
