Set up at home, except the service that gives me the code to get onto work's server remotely isn't working, so I am on the phone to IT... in my kitchen.

It's not ideal.

I'm in the same boat for a few of the things I do for work...and they can't fix it without port forwarding, which they don't want to do (not secure), so I'm basically doing like 75% of the job, and the other 25% will pile up and I'll have to handle it all when I'm back in the office instead.

Not ideal. Wish I could do it all from home.

I can do everything except issue of Court documents from home.

OH and that's another thing. Which is a huge pain in the ass but at the same time understandable.

So Courts are moving towards telephone hearings for our MOJ Part 8 stuff, all dandy, except if you don't have notice you have a mad rush to set up your legal connect as you need Counsel's name and number, opposing Counsel's same details, the District Judge's name and their number. And heaven forfend the defendant hold out on you.

Like I say it's totally understandable that they are doing it and I support the reasoning fully, but it's such a pain to arrange without some advance warning!

Our hearings are all being rescheduled- tentatively "june or july"

I can do basically everything from home with remote access- except fax stuff to the Board. I send it to our office and the staff there (who either drive to the office, or live a block away) fax it for me.

Come on now - do you want them to leave mum's basement for a few minutes a day or not?

I've pulled the pin on work for the next month.

Personal worries for me and mine aside (fiancé is diabetic and ma is in the high risk immunocompromised group) I don't want to be part of the problem, flying across to Scotland every week is not responsible. It will pinch us financially, but better that than a spreader or a deader

It's the last time most of them will see natural sunlight for a few months. Let them enjoy the tropical downpour that hit here about 2 hours ago.

Update this morning:

Tax filing deadline moved from April 15 to July 15 here is the U.S.

Trump again leads with Chinese virus at this morning's update. And of course Mike Pompeo (Secretary of State) follows suit. A Chinese reporter tried to ask Trump about it, but was cut off by Trump, as he started lying on and on about how he respects Xi Jinping, and how they have a great relationship.

Trump is lucky he has Dr. Anthony Fauci on board and speaking during these briefings. Dr. Fauci has been a super star during this and has gone a long way to, in my opinion, ease people's worries, but also level with the public about how serious this is.

That last tweet - Coronavirus developed by militant feminists confirmed!

No doubt some actually believe that and will appear on a tweet from the orange bellend before too long as fact...

I read about it being worse for men. Apparently that's true of all respiratory viruses. An analysis I read said it was likely due to the fact that older men are typically more likely to be smokers than women. It didn't rule out a physiological cause though.

UK government job protection package is really quite something! 80% of salary up to Ł2.5k per month.

I'm assuming this is an American apartment. It always freaks me out when I see an apartment or house with out some kind of entry hall. The notion that you'd just step right into somebody's living room or kitchen from the street or a public hallway is bizarre.

Italy has had 627 deaths in the last 24 hours, a completely staggering number. China, in comparison, apparently didn't have more than 150 deaths registered for the same amount of time.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

update from our front-line staff trying to get some answers from the Board:

-They are running skeleton crew, pretty much everyone's at home, waiting to be set up with remote access.

No idea how long it'll take people to set up.

not responding, or acknowledging any mail; it's not being filed right now.

Excitign times ahead as the entire government machine is being dragged into the Information Age.

Given that pubs are shut.
Parties are a bad idea.

Does good hangouts still work?
Is there a better mass group video call free platform out there? Thinking off organising a social distancing party with my cousin's for a night this or next weekend

Alas:

'Swans had returned to deserted Venetian canals. Dolphins too. And a group of elephants had sauntered through a village in Yunnan, China, gotten drunk off corn wine, and passed out in a tea garden.

These reports of wildlife triumphs in countries hard-hit by the novel coronavirus got hundreds of thousands of retweets. They went viral on Instagram and Tik Tok. They made news headlines. If there’s a silver lining of the pandemic, people said, this was it—animals were bouncing back, running free in a humanless world.

But it wasn’t real.

The swans in the viral posts regularly appear in the canals of Burano, a small island in the greater Venice metropolitan area, where the photos were taken. The “Venetian” dolphins were filmed at a port in Sardinia, in the Mediterranean Sea, hundreds of miles away. No one has figured out where the drunken elephant photos came from, but a Chinese news report debunked the viral posts: While elephants did recently come through a village in Yunnan Province, China, their presence isn’t out of the norm, they aren’t the elephants in the viral photos, and they didn’t get drunk and pass out in a tea field.'

My partner and I do not believe the numbers coming from China at all. Beijing reportedly only has 800 confirmed cases total. That's BS.

Italy is reporting accurately and that's a big difference.
