For myself, I just hope to get to the store after work today to get netting and gorilla tape to go to war with the goddamned pigeons on my balcony and block them out of roosting and knocking boots there.

Don't be hasty. You may need the protein.

I was trying to quote you accurately by adding in the "as hell". Those were your words, not mine.

King Lear, on 13 March 2020 - 03:59 PM, said:

I'm not angry, and strong language use is not a sign of anger, but you already know that.

Considering the strong language is not really present in the interaction before that, I simply assumed that you'd gotten annoyed enough to use it. My bad. It's how I would have ramped things up if I was bothered.

King Lear, on 13 March 2020 - 03:59 PM, said:

Whining about how I don't like you when over the years I've been on this forum you've repeatedly returned to framing what I say as an overly emotional response isn't a particularly impressive observation.

Have I? I don't recall doing that on any regular basis before. I freely admit to being an opinionated person, but I never saw what I did to bother you at the level you seem to dislike me. But hey, you came at me here, I was doing my best to leave you be since your return as I am well aware of how you feel about me.

King Lear, on 13 March 2020 - 03:59 PM, said:

it's pretty self evident to me that lots of people are struggling and if you don't care to see that it's really not my problem.

Again, can you point to me where I said that people weren't struggling in some cases? It would be silly to assume otherwise. I was just trying to head off the notion that it's black and white and that everyone is panicking who is preparing for what's coming in the various countries who have yet to reach critical peaks of this thing. That's literally it.

So, some Canadians reckon they have a vaccine. Biology types out there - what's the likelihood?
Especially that it's
1. going to be produced in time to have an effect, and
2. going to cover both strains? I know I know, you need a second vaccine, I'm asking if they could have one for each.

They could have vaccines ready for testing, however that will be months of work. Dont expect a vaccine soon.

So Abyss, does this only apply to me or am I just supposed to keep quite while QT makes the discussion about how much I apparently hate him (???). Or perhaps a separate post would have been less easy to miss?

I saw this. Pretty funny actually.

Glad we've isolated it though. Going to make things easier going forward. Long road yet, but definitely a bright spot.

About six months from now there is going to be a run of teenage boys visiting hospital emergency rooms - so much hand sanitizer available, out of hand lotion, *shrugs why not, it seems like it could work. *wank-wank-wank Posted Image

Why the fuck is trump refusing to be tested.
I mean I know why, he's a paranoid wreck, but surely a fit to rule situation has to be in play here and a doctor should just jab a swab down his fucking throat

People are speculating it's because he already has been tested - he's been potentially exposed twice, once through people in his circle who went to CPAC and once through Bolsonaro's guy.

But the guy has always told lies, much as we're encouraged to forget that since he first got the nomination, so it's entirely possible he's just lying about it.

It's also a nasal swab, I believe, so maybe he's uncomfortable with that? He's, again, always been pretty neurotic and that's not aged well either.

He's totally been tested. They're just not admitting it or releasing the results.

...and since we could expect him to brag about negative results, the likely conclusion is he's got it but only mlld or asymptomatic.

Meanwhile in Canada the PM's wife tested positive. PM himself is negative.

As of 14 hours ago, 'Because he has no symptoms, Mr. Trudeau will not be tested for now'. I haven't been able to find any reference to him having been tested. Maybe they think it would be a political liability? Did he not have any contact with his wife?...

'Amazon Is Out of Toilet Paper and It Wont Answer Our Emails'

https://www.vice.com...swer-our-emails

But:

'I like to imagine that several decades from now we will look back on the absurdities of Modern Western civilization and find one towering above the rest: toilet paper.

In today's supposed age of carbon-footprint awareness, the mere idea of toilet paper should be offensive. We chop down trees, mash them up, bleach them, press them into sheets, roll them onto cardboard, wrap them in plastic, place them onto trucks, drive them to supermarkets and then pay money – actual money – for them.

[...] This is why four months ago I decided to remove toilet paper from my life completely. I now step into the shower after using the toilet and use nothing but water (a miraculous cleaning agent) and my own hand, which I wash afterward with soap. The process adds maybe 10 seconds to my shower. Since making the decision to quit, I have not used a square of toilet paper on my body, and I have never been more clean.

What has been a relatively simple decision for me has traditionally not been so simple for humans throughout history. Since forever, we have found wiping to be as perplexing as our deepest existential quandaries.

We have variously used fur, sand, shells and stones. According to the book The Porcelain God: A Social History of the Toilet, the ancient Romans used sticks with sea sponges attached. Medieval monks used cloth from old clerical robes, and French royalty used necks of geese. Until fairly recently, in many parts of rural United States people used corn cobs.

The ancient Chinese did use paper for bathroom hygiene, but most sources attribute modern-day toilet paper to Joseph Gayetty, who in 1857 developed Gayetty's Medicated Paper in the United States. In An Irreverent and Almost Complete Social History of the Bathroom, author Frank Muir astutely labels the development of toilet paper as "an excellent example of a go-ahead company creating public demand for a product for which there was no need."'

https://www.theglobe...you-should-too/

A bathtub faucet should also work. However, since the virus can be spread through fecal matter, this is probably not the best time for people who use toilet paper to learn to use their hands (and wash them thoroughly enough... though the custom in some places of only wiping with your off hand and using your right hand to touch things would help). Best solution is to invest in bidets.

Some reports were he was tested and negative, others no testing because no symptoms.
I dunno but apparently he's just fine.

'Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who met with several U.S. officials including President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence during an official visit over the weekend, has denied that he tested positive for the 2019 novel coronavirus.

Brazilian news outlet Jornal O Dia and Fox News, citing Bolsonaro’s son Eduardo, reported Friday that Bolsonaro had the flu-like virus.'

I'm watching a Ch4 coronavirus "Are we doing enough?" special. They have a Professor of Infectious Disease from LSE (I think) debating with a Silicon Valley Tech Executive who wrote some alarmist blog post. The first dude is saying this is here all year, slow and steady is the way to deal with, make big moves at the right time. And the Tech Exec literally said that everyone who gets it is going to die and we have to beat it by the weekend. The Guardian has a headline "Fear Trudeau's wife caught it in London" - I'm not afraid! This show ran with "The news from Italy is terrifying" - I'm not terrified. This is what I mean about being annoyed by the "panic". Close schools! We're not doing the same as Ireland! Ban mass gatherings! Fuck off - it's politics. Any country with less percent infection rate than the UK who has taken those measures is playing politics and optics with the public. They are not watching the science.

Actually, a caveat to the above post about shut downs being politics. Only in countries that in normal times look after their population. Not in the US! To be fair it is borderline in the UK with the last 10 years of Tory austerity too. I just hope they go down for that and ignoring expert advice over the impact of austerity on the vulnerable rather than finally listening to the scientists now.

Fucking hell, I hate humans. My son is obsessed with Great White Sharks and Megaladons. He loves it when we tell him they eat people. He has the right idea.
