I had a moderately severe reaction, but I wished it were worse.

Second dose due today. I pulled a muscle in my non-writing arm that I usually get jabbed in. Pondering if I want to have one extra sore arm or two slightly sore arms. Decisions decisions.

Also the kids class are all out of school after someone had a positive test. We're on day 4 since contact and no symptoms so fingers crossed. Virtually everyone I know with kids in the UK has them out of school right now.

And finally - get prepped for the epsilon variant that Boris is trying to brew with England's Freedom Day in a week or so! Let's hope it isn't the zombie creating one.

There is no evidence for any of these. Immune systems are so complex and individual. There's no rhyme or reason to any one individuals experienced reactions to anything. The important thing is that on the inside the right things are happening in the majority of people. How it actually feels is different for everyone.

... so he supposedly thinks vaccination reduces hospitalization and death enough even against variants that the UK should move on to 'everybody get infected as fast as possible so we get herd immunity -ish'? I am not looking forward to Saturday at all.

Went to Sheffield on Saturday gone, sit on train, barely anyone bothering to keep the masks on, no one is really maintaining any level of distance. I wouldn't feel safe going back to the office as is. Of course it makes me even more leery of going out again when I see a country still in lockdown have however many thousands jam into a close space for a great big chimp out because the sports wasn't sportsed hard enough. Watching football fans is honestly like going to Monkey World when the apes are having a barney.

I say this as someone who has been to Man Utd, Swansea City and Crystal Palace games, home and away. I'm getting a bit sick of all the "England needs to look at itself" bollocks since the final. So there is a large minority of twats in this country - tell me something I didn't know before the final kicked off.

I need to cancel my second booking and then rebook at the high risk centre. Not looking forward to Saturday at all because I'll be running on one vaccine for at least six weeks and any chance of people staying away from me goes out of the window because muh boris did a freedom day.

Agree with Mezla that the hate seems a bit disproportionate, both here and in the media. Yes, there is a significant minority of football 'fans' in the UK who just see the sport as an excuse to riot and be abusive, but the stigmatisation of all football supporters because of the behaviour of an aggressive minority is very unhelpful and unfair. I'm happy to proclaim myself a big football fan and I've been to many matches, both in the UK and in the Netherlands, without any problems. In the Netherlands we also have our share of unseedy characters who call themselves football fans and you see it across Europe. Already many well-behaved football fans have to suffer fairly degrading and pricey inconveniences because of the actions of these twats (e.g. away fans in the Netherlands for many matches are only allowed to travel to those matches on organised coach trips with police escorts, which they have to pay for themselves, instead of using their own or public transport), without needing to be told by the general public that they are all scumbags and should find a better hobby.

Totally agree. I'm getting rather tired of having it inferred or outright said that because I like football I'm part of this homogenous riotous mob. I have also been to a few home and away matches (we're Newcastle fans in the family, for our sins) and whilst yes there are a minority who spoil things, I've enjoyed the atmosphere and found the matches enjoyable experiences.

I'm not condoning the actions of the minority of complete twats, they're reprehensible and I wish they didn't spoil things for the majority. What's happened online in terms of the abuse of the players who didn't score the penalties has been equally disgusting - but the "look at me I don't like football and so I'm a better class of human" that's been doing the rounds is wearing very thin.

I dunno about any of this - when I learn that there's many people saying there's enormous amounts of bigotry bring directed at them, especially in ways that make them fear for their lives, because they're brown or black, my response isn't to get tired of the "we must look at ourselves" spiel or to emphasize how I'm not part of the crowd that's hurting the people this way.

The people being hurt aren't asking you if you're abusive in real life or online. They're telling you that this person or that group are doing that and ask that you help to step up to stop it. And some of the hurt people are even providing step by step processes for support or how to make things better.

Learning to live with it or being tired of the inference that all football fans are abusive hooligans seem like bad takeaways from this.

Let the people who want to feel superior do so - they've barely needed an excuse before and will continue to do so. How about actively helping people experience less abuse instead?

I've been to plenty of games and for the most saw no trouble.
Took my dad to the Ethihad for the city everyone game (he's a city fan) and the abuse being hurled back and forth in away corner of the stadium was disgusting.
Its all anecdotal I suppose, was at the Euros in 2016, only real trouble I heard about was the Russian fans

No I'm not trying to say that at all. It's more like this isn't the catalyst that has made me see it and it shouldn't need to be the catalyst for others. I'm a relatively rare British class mixture of ridiculously middle class woke but also raised working class so slightly eye rolling when the middle classes see the reality of the world and kick up a fuss.
